Chapter 9. Monotony
The days went by quickly, things becoming routine once again, but with more friends than before. I really liked spending time with the Cullens, along with my friends from summer. I usually split hanging out with both groups each day. I would switch sitting between them every other day normally. Only sometimes I would sit with the Cullens two or three days in a row because one of them would drag me to their table.
The rest of school was as boring as I remembered. For online school, it was finished as soon as my work for the day was done. So it was very boring having to sit here and listen to the teachers drone on about something that holds no meaning in my life.
During lunch today while I was sitting with the Cullens, Alice asked me a question, "So,we've been friends for a few weeks now. How would you feel about having a sleepover at our house?"
"Oh! That sounds really fun! I'll have to ask my dad first though. He'll probably say yes because I don't get out of the house much."
The only times I really go out of the house are to go shopping, or to see Jake every now and then. Jake was nice to have around, he was like a big puppy. He was always excited to see me and I liked talking to him while he worked on his motorcycles.
So after school, I asked dad if I could spend the weekend over at the Cullens house.
"Of course, it's nice to see you making such good friends. Especially with the Cullens, they're good people." He said.
"They are very good people, yeah. I really like them." I said.
"How long will you be staying?" He asked.
"Alice said the whole weekend. So from Friday after school, to like Sunday afternoon." I replied.
"Are you OK with being gone that long?"
"Yeah, for some reason I feel really safe with them."
"OK, but promise me that you'll call me if you start feeling uncomfortable."
I gave him a nod and thumbs up. After that conversation the rest of the day went like normal. And the rest of that week also went by normally. I was excited as each day passed, just waiting to spend more time with the Cullens. Once Friday rolled around, I was basically bouncing in my chair at lunch.
"Someone looks excited." Said Emmett.
"Yes! I am! I've never been to a sleepover before, so I'm hella excited for it. Especially because y'all're so nice to me." I exclaimed.
"It's nice to see you so excited, darlin'." Said Jasper.
My face flushed a bit, still not used to the nickname. "Yeah, I am excited to hang out outside of school too!"
They all smiled at me, but Alice grinned and said, "I'm gonna use you as a dress up doll and make you all sorts of pretty tonight. We'll do a fashion night, Rose, will you do her hair?"
"Count me in, I'm always up to make her into a pretty little doll." Said Rosalie.
Everything that Rosalie and Alice just said sent shivers down my spine and made me very flustered. I liked spending time with all of them, but they always say just the right things to make me embarrassed.
"Oh oh! Count me in too, I wanna be pretty!" Emmett almost yelled. Edward shook his head, and everyone else laughed.
"Emmett, you're already very pretty." I said laughing
He grinned at me, and if he could, he would've blushed. He reached across the table and ruffled my hair, which I squeaked in response.
We continued to talk about plans for the weekend and I was ecstatic for all of it. After lunch was over we all went our separate ways once again. School was starting to become an easy part of my life, it was easy to forget that I was physically sick.
Once school was over I was almost skipping to the parking lot, looking for one of the Cullen' cars. Before I could even realise, there was a pair of hands on my shoulders and I jumped in fright.
"Spooked ya!" Said Alice.
"Jeez, you scared the crap outta me, Alice. I almost had a heart attack." I said.
"Sorry, hun. Didn't mean to scare you that bad." She giggled. "C'mon, every one is waiting for you."
Alice took my hand and dragged me to their cars across the parking lot. It was decided that I would drive with Edward so I wouldn't be squished.
"Hi, Edward." I said, getting into the car.
"Hello, Aaliyah." He said back
After a few minutes of agonizingly fast driving, we got to a red light and I felt like I could breath again. I sighed in relief which got a strange look from Edward.
"Something wrong?" he asked.
"Sorry, you just drive really fast, it's kind of freaky." I said meekly.
"There's no reason to apologise, just let me know next time." He replied.
When the light turned green, he drove in a less maniacal way. It was a little easier to bear being in the car now that he had slowed down. Even though my adrenaline had calmed down, I was still pretty hot.
"Hey Edward, could we turn the AC on, it's kind of hot in here." I asked.
"Of course." He said.
And as fate would have it, we reached for the temperature console at the same time and bumped hands.
"Woah, your hands are super cold. They feel really nice." I said before I could stop myself.
He then did something really bold, and put his hand on my neck. I let out a shocked noise, almost like a moan, but not quite there. He pulled his hand back and apologised, "Sorry, I did that before I could think."
"No no, it's fine, I just wasn't expecting it. It felt really good since I tend to run pretty hot." I replied a little embarrassed.
We sat in awkward silence for a few more minutes until we arrived at a very beautiful spot in a nice green forest area. I looked around as we pulled up to a modern looking house with lots of windows instead of walls.
Once Edward pulled into the gravel driveway, we got out and he showed me to the front door.
"This is a very pretty house, I didn't know there were houses like this so far out." I said in awe.
"Yeah, this is where we live. It has a lot of windows, but we don't get a whole lot of sun, so it's kind of a waste." He said.
"I don't think it's a waste, even without the sun, the forest is still gorgeous. I like this feeling more than I like the sun." I said.
He smiled at me and opened the door while motioning for me to go inside. I took my shoes off and put them by the door before going all the way in the door. Then we walked up the stairs to where everyone was waiting for us.
