Frantic footsteps can be heard echoing through
Tríú leibhéal. A girl running towards the lift.
A woman stumbling quickly behind her.
Woman: you can't go up there Karna! You'll be killed!
Karna: if I stay I'll be killed!
Woman: you can't run from your own mother!
Karna: watch me!
As she reaches the lifts Karna jumps in slamming the big metal cage door. Her mother slamming and growling at the door.
Woman: you've eaten human! Your one of us god-fucking-damnit!
Karna: you tried to eat a child! I'm nothing like you...
The lift slowly pulls up as karna's eyes pool with tears
Karna: he tried killing me, all because I refused to eat a fucking child!
Woman: he was mad! What do you expect?!
Karna: I'm his child!
The lift elevates passed the level walls as her mother screams out one last time.
Woman: you can't escape what you are! You think you'll survive without eating human flesh?!
Karna ignores her, tears rolling down her face, she looks at the lift clock
: three hours to slumaí :
She sits down resting her head on her knees, slowly crying herself to sleep...
2 hours and 30 minutes later
The sound of slumaí's people and markets can be heard as karna wakes up slowly. She looks up to the clock :30 minutes to slumaí:
She stretches her arms up and wipes the tears from her face. she gets up and waits, watching the town below as she slowly gets closer to the ground.
Once the lift reaches the floor the doors slowly slide open. karna walks out and looks around, her eyes wide with wonder as she looks around the streets. She walks around until she finds the markets.
Karna See's a shop with a big neon sign In the shape of a bird, her curiosity gets the best of her and she walks in, as she opens the door she isn't greeted by birds but by an old man behind a desk, she slowly treads towards the desk.
Old man: lemme guess, not from slumaí are you?
Karna: n-no, how did you know?
Old man: that's the point of this shop, the big neon sign gets all the new peoples attention
Karna: I have so many questions
Old man: and yet so little time, come with me, I'll explain on the way....
The old man gets up and turns to the wall behind him, he knocks three times then the wall opens up to a secret door.
Old man: you gonna come with or you gonna sit there like a deer in headlights.
Karna follows him into the dark walk way, then down some stairs.
Old man: alotta kids like you come from either Tríú leibhéal or Ríoga, searching for help, for safety from their previous life.
Karna: Ríoga? People from Ríoga come down here?
Old man: well, only two, siblings, Nick and North, they both escaped a month ago
As the man finishes speaking karna sees a big metal door, the man opens it and they a greeted by the sight of neon signs, the sound of laughter and music, the smell of food, fresh linen and dust from the concrete floors. The man turns around and looks at karna
Old man: this is as far as I'll go, too much walking for an old fella like me. Go down there and looks for a tent with a neon spider, that's the new comers tent, you'll be staying there, find Nick and North and you should be fine
Karna: I have a question, is the neon sign on your shop a bird?
The old man thinks for a second then speaks
Old man: it's uhm a-a sparrow, it symbolizes hope for the kids down here.
Karna: oh ok
Old man: off you go now, no more questions...
Karna nods and heads in the direction of the spider tent, she keeps walking until she find it, she gets in and looks around, barely a second goes by before she gets greeted by a girl
Girl: hi! My names zori! I volunteer down here! Your new right? What's your name?
Karna: k-Karna nice to meet you
Zori: well it's nice to meet you too, I love your name, it's really pretty, and your eyes! I've never seen red eyes before, ive seen pink from a lot of the cannibals from Tríú leibhéal but none red! That's where your from right? Sorry to assume but we've only ever gotten two people from up top.
Karna: yeah I'm from the cannibal lands, speaking of ríoga, can I meet the two from there?
Zori: of course! There my good friends! Them and my two other friends who also volunteer down here, we all live here in slumaí but we like to help people get used to living down here, it's different I get it, but we find our fun! Come on I'll take you to Nick and North
The girls walk through the tent and eventually get to the siblings, Nick and North. Nick stands up to greet Karna.
Nick: hi, nice to meet you, my names nick
Karna: nice to meet you too, I'm Karna
Zori: Karna is from Tríú leibhéal! But her eyes are a darker shade! How cool is that!
North stands up and looks towards Karna
North: it's pretty, don't worry
As they continue speaking two people approach
James: hey zori, Who's this?
Zori: hey James! This is our newest add on to the group! Her names Karna
Payton : hi, names Payton, it's nice to meet you. We don't get many new comers lately... It's good to see a new face
Karna: t-thanks, may I ask, Nick, how did you and your sister end up down here? If it's not to much.
Nick: oh not at all, it happened in the morning, I was waking North up for breakfast.....
