VERNON POV 🐢

When I opened the door, I came across the last person I expected to see: Dahyun's parents.

What were they doing here at this time of night? My heart raced and I was frozen in place.

Dahyun's mother, with a gentle smile on her face, said, "Honey, I brought food! You must not be eating properly since you decided to be an idol."

Dahyun, embarrassed, gave a weak smile and followed her mother to the kitchen.

Dahyun's father, an imposing man with a piercing gaze, approached me and placed his hand on my shoulder. "Let's talk, kid," he said in a firm voice.

I felt a wave of nervousness come over me. What did he want to talk to me about? I sat on the sofa as far away as possible, but he told me: "Sit closer."

Obediently, I moved a little closer. He stared at me for a few moments, his eyes scanning me from top to bottom. "You're a bit of an introvert, aren't you?" he said, his voice carrying a curious tone.

"Yes, sir," I replied, feeling uncomfortable under his penetrating gaze.

He let out a short, dry laugh. “Dahyun is the complete opposite of you,” he said, scratching his chin. "I confess I was surprised when she told me she was dating you. But, well, you're also famous..."

Dahyun's mother, who was now in the room, interrupted him, "Honey, you're scaring the boy."

Dahyun's father ignored his scolding and continued, with a threatening tone, "But remember, kid, Dahyun has an older brother too. If you hurt her..."

He left the sentence hanging in the air, a sinister smile forming on his lips.

His habit of leaving his sentences half-written sent shivers down my spine.

I didn't know what to say or do. I felt intimidated and nervous in the presence of that man.

He made it clear to me that I needed to take good care of Dahyun, or I would have to face the consequences.

------------
Dahyun arrived with the plates of food, saving me from that awkward situation. "Eat this, Dad," she said, worried about my tension. "You're scaring Vernon."

Her father, with a forced smile, pretended to be surprised. "Stop what?" he said, trying to sound innocent. "I was being very kind, right Vernon?"

I hesitated before responding. "Yeah...", I said, in a hesitant voice.

He approached, with a penetrating gaze. "Do you think I haven't forgotten when you went to NY alone with this boy without my permission?", he asked, his voice full of reproach.

Dahyun, irritated by her father's attitude, confronted him. "I'm already 26, Dad," she said firmly. "I'm not a child."

Dahyun's mother, trying to diffuse the situation, intervened. "And darling," she said, her tone calm, "they weren't alone all the time. Vernon's mother and little sister were there too."

Abruptly changing the subject, Dahyun's mother asked, "Do you guys live in this small apartment? Is it comfortable?"

Dahyun, surprised by the change of subject, replied, "Of course it is!", she said, with a smile.

The conversation continued at this pace, with Dahyun's father making indirect comments about disapproval of our relationship, while her mother tried to diffuse the situation.

I felt uncomfortable and embarrassed by Dahyun's father's attitude, but also grateful for the protection Dahyun showed me.

At the end of the night, after her parents' insistence, Dahyun walked them to the door.

I watched her leave, my heart sinking.

He knew that the relationship with her father would be a challenge, but he was willing to face it, as long as he was by Dahyun's side.

----------
After Dahyun's parents left, I took a relaxing bath and lay down on the bed.

Dahyun was sitting at the dressing table, applying sleeping cream to her face.

"I apologize for my father," she said, with a sad look. "I think he's just worried."

"He scares me," I replied, sincerely. "And I thought you talked to him about the New York trip."

She smiled, a shy smile that hid a hint of mischief. "I told him, but he didn't approve. My mother..."

She left the sentence hanging in the air, a knowing wink telling me that her mother understood the situation.

A sudden impulse overcame me. "I love you," I said, the words coming out of my mouth without planning.

Dahyun was surprised, her eyes wide.

I rarely said "I love you", and even more so when it was out of the blue.

She lowered her head, a shy smile forming on her lips. "I didn't hear it," she said jokingly. "What did you say?"

"I didn't say anything...", I replied, feigning ignorance.

She lay down next to me, snuggling her head on my chest.

Her little hand began to massage my chest with soft, relaxing movements. "I love you too," she said, in a low voice, almost a whisper.

At that moment, I felt an indescribable peace and happiness.

ADespite the challenges we faced with Dahyun's father, the love I felt for her was strong enough to overcome any obstacle.

I fell asleep with the warmth of her body next to me and the certainty that, together, we could face anything.
