Chapter 2

Amity's pov:

I stared blankly out the door. I heard people speaking but I couldn't understand what they were saying. I had something in my hand. It was sharp and it cut me but I couldn't feel it.

I look down at my hand. It was shaking, and my knuckles were pale. I peek into my hand before quickly closeing it. I can't look at it.

My brother was not too far from me. He was slightly curled up. Fidgeting. Emira was not too far from where he was. She was lying on her back staring at the ceiling.

I dunno when but viney arrived. She was currently doing something. I'm not sure what she was doing, maybe she was trying to heal my wounds.

I touch the bandage around my stomach. Picking at it slightly. Despite being in the owl house there was a significant lack of sound. It's so quiet. Too quiet. It doesn't feel right.

"Luz" I whispered.

"What?" Edric asks. He scoots closer.

I let my head fall back and wheeze softly,"Luz"

She isn't here blight

Viney gently held my hand as she continued to bandage my arm. Slowly moving to my hand. She took the shard from me. Inspecting it. She spoks to me. Probably something about the object. Maybe a question? I can't really tell.

She sounded so distant.

I shrugged and glanced out the door. Something shimmered where the portal once stood. I push myself off the ground and stumbled out the door.

Edric grabbed my arm. His lips moved but I couldn't hear anything. I gently push him off me and make my way outside. I didn't get too far when i collapsed. The world began to spin and I started seeing black spots.

"Amity"

I try to stand only to fall on my face again. I grips the grass tightly and slowly pull myself to where I saw the glint. Reaching out to it I realize what it was. Luz's ring.

I make myself sit and study the ring. She kept it close to her the entire time. Now she's lost it. She'll be happy to have it back. I noticed something engraved in the ring.

"To the Hecate to my Azura." I read out loud. Was this for me? I hold it gently and trace the gem on top. I quickly stood up and try to make my way to where Edric stood not too far from me. Emira right by his side.

"Ed." I collapsed into his arms,"I need to get to luz."

"How are you going to do that? The portal its broken." Emira whispered dejectedly. My face fell. He was Right belos had thrown 2 fireballs at it. I had pushed luz through to protect her but I couldn't protect the portal.

I look down. There was no portal. I couldn't protect it. Now luz can't come back to the boiling isles and I can't go to the human realm.

I run a hand through my hair. My heartbeat is ringing in my ears,"the portal is destroyed. I let it get destroyed. Without it we can't get what we need to defeat belos. Luz can't come back."

I look up at my brother grabbing into his shirt,"this is all my fault. I should have done something sooner. I could have fought harder. Luz is stuck in the human realm! And we can't find a way to beat belos without the other staff!"

I let myself fall to my knees and punch the ground. Tears clouded my vision. It's my fault. Damn it I should have fought harder! I rest my hand back and slam it into the ground. I could feel Edric and Emira trying to grab my arm but I'd just keep punching.
