Chapter 28
The Birthday
┕━━━━━✿━━━━━┙

WHEN THE COUPLE HAD RETURNED, only a few days passed before Alice, Jasper, and Edward's school days began. As well as Bella's celebration of the date of her birth.

The young Swan didn't relish the thought but a certain pixie haired vampire was more than happy to plan a small party for the girl. Only that it wasn't that simple.

There were candles lit surrounding the room, the others scented to lighten the ambiance. Small bouquets of flowers were at every corner, both red and pink altogether.

Lights and streamers hang around the house. A cake that is too big to be eaten by Bella and her Dad alone sat in the middle of the living room. And a small pile of gifts were stacked right beside it.

"How is she supposed to take that home?" Anastasia raised an eyebrow, staring at the pastry blankly. "That's going to last for what? Four weeks?"

"It's perfect." Alice deadpanned, shaking her head at the opinion.

"That's a three layer cake." Rosalie pointed out. "It'll be a surprise if that lasts a week without spoiling."

"Why am I moving the piano?" Sebastian clicked his tongue.

"Just do it!"

Minutes after that, the rumbling of Bella's truck was heard from the garage. Alice didn't give the girl a chance to see the living room, she was ultimately rushed to Carlisle's study along with Edward.

"I-Is that Carlisle?" Bella wondered, pointing to a blonde vampire who stood right beside Marcus. But when her eyes trailed to the left, her eyes widened with recognition. "And Sebastian..."

"Yeah." Edward confirmed her assumptions. "They lived with them for a few decades. Sebastian longer than Carlisle."

Bella hummed in reply. Carlisle looked out of place, he looked remorseful, almost like he couldn't take what was happening in front of him. But Sebastian was a different story.

He stood beside the blonde Volturi king, Caius, his signature smirk plastered on his face, his eyes were striking blood red. He looked like he belonged. His face showed amusement and his aura reeked of power. One that doesn't make a person want to let it go.

"Described them as refined. No respect for human life, of course." Edward continued. "But a respect to arts and science at least. And the law. Above all, the law."

Isabella was taken aback, vampires had laws? Edward didn't hesitate to elaborate. Even though he was already breaking one of them just by talking to Bella. Touchè, Cullen.

"Sebastian looked like..." The human hesitated, not wanting to offend anyone even if the said vampire could not hear what she was about to say.

"Like he fit in perfectly." Edward replied,  nodding his head. It was no secret that there was a very dark patch of Sebastian's life. "Aro was very fond of him. Almost at the level of the Volturi Kings."

"He had two gifts, having one is rare enough, two is almost just a tale until he came." The vampire resumed, though not saying much in respect to the Donovan's privacy. "He was the opposite of Carlisle. He didn't hesitate to kill. Specially those who deserved it."
