The next morning, Layla woke up with a contented smile, the memories of the fall festival still fresh in her mind. She had enjoyed every moment with Ashton, but as she lay in bed, she found her thoughts drifting to Tyler. There was something about his easygoing nature and constant presence that made her feel at ease. She decided it was time to spend some more time with him, to see if there was something more than friendship between them.

At school, Layla found Tyler near his locker, chatting with a group of friends. She waited for a lull in the conversation before approaching.

"Hey, Tyler. Got a minute?" she asked, her voice light.

Tyler turned, his face lighting up with a smile. "Of course, Layla. What's up?"

"I was thinking... we've been so busy with everything going on, and I realized we haven't really hung out just the two of us. Do you want to grab a coffee after school?"

Tyler's smile widened. "I'd love that. There's a great café near the park. How about we meet there around 4 PM?"

"Perfect," Layla agreed, feeling a flutter of anticipation.

The rest of the day seemed to drag as Layla looked forward to her coffee date with Tyler. When the final bell rang, she quickly gathered her things and headed to the café. As she walked in, she spotted Tyler already at a table by the window, two steaming mugs in front of him.

"Hey, I got us some hot chocolate," Tyler greeted her with a grin as she sat down. "Thought it might be a nice change from coffee."

Layla smiled, appreciating the thoughtful gesture. "Thanks, Tyler. That sounds perfect."

They chatted about school, their friends, and the festival, the conversation flowing easily. Layla found herself laughing more than she had in a while, Tyler's infectious humor lifting her spirits. As they talked, she couldn't help but notice how different he was from Ashton. Where Ashton was intense and brooding, Tyler was light and carefree. It was a refreshing contrast.

"So, Layla," Tyler began, his tone more serious. "I've been meaning to ask... how are things really going with Ashton? You seem to be spending a lot of time with him."

Layla took a sip of her hot chocolate, considering her words carefully. "It's been... interesting. Ashton is complicated, but I feel like I'm starting to understand him better. He's not as tough as he seems."

Tyler nodded, his expression thoughtful. "I'm glad to hear that. Ashton's been through a lot, and he doesn't let people in easily. But I can see he trusts you."

Layla felt a warm rush of gratitude. "Thanks, Tyler. That means a lot coming from you."

There was a moment of silence, filled with unspoken words and lingering questions. Tyler looked at her, his eyes softening. "Layla, I know I've always been the 'good guy,' but I want you to know that I care about you. A lot."

Layla's heart skipped a beat. "Tyler, I care about you too. You've been such a good friend to me since I moved here."

Tyler reached across the table, taking her hand in his. "I mean it, Layla. You're special to me. I just... I want you to know that."

Layla felt a rush of emotions, her mind spinning. She had always felt safe with Tyler, but now she was seeing him in a new light. "Tyler, I..."

Before she could finish, the café door opened, and Ashton walked in. He spotted them immediately, his eyes narrowing slightly as he saw their joined hands. He approached the table, his expression unreadable.

"Hey, Layla. Tyler," Ashton greeted, his tone neutral.

"Hey, Ashton," Layla said, trying to gauge his reaction. "What brings you here?"

Ashton shrugged, his gaze flicking between them. "Just grabbing a coffee. Didn't expect to see you two here."

Tyler gave Ashton a friendly nod. "We were just catching up. You're welcome to join us."

Ashton hesitated, then shook his head. "Thanks, but I've got some stuff to take care of. I'll see you guys later."

Ashton walked away, leaving Layla feeling a mix of confusion and concern. She turned back to Tyler, who gave her hand a reassuring squeeze.

"Don't worry about it, Layla. Ashton just needs time to process things. He'll come around."

Layla nodded, but her thoughts were still on Ashton. She appreciated Tyler's support, but she couldn't ignore the growing complexity of her feelings. She cared deeply for both brothers, and she was starting to realize just how difficult navigating this love triangle would be.

As the evening drew to a close, Tyler walked Layla to her car. They stood there for a moment, the night air cool and crisp.

"Thanks for tonight, Tyler. I had a really good time," Layla said, her voice soft.

"Me too, Layla. We should do this more often," Tyler replied, his smile warm.

Layla leaned in, giving him a hug. "I'd like that."

As they pulled apart, Layla felt a sense of clarity. She knew she needed to be honest with both Tyler and Ashton about her feelings. It wouldn't be easy, but it was the only way to move forward.

The next day at school, Layla found herself feeling more determined than ever. She needed to talk to Ashton, to clear the air and find out where they stood. She spotted him by his locker, his usual guarded expression in place.

"Ashton, can we talk?" Layla asked, her voice steady.

Ashton glanced at her, then nodded. "Sure. Let's go somewhere private."

They found an empty classroom, and Layla took a deep breath before speaking. "Ashton, I need to be honest with you. I care about you a lot, and I feel like we've grown close. But I also care about Tyler, and I'm trying to figure out my feelings."

Ashton's eyes darkened, but he listened silently. "I get it, Layla. Tyler's the safe choice. The good guy."

"It's not about that," Layla insisted. "It's about being honest and fair to both of you. I don't want to hurt anyone, but I can't ignore my feelings."

Ashton sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I appreciate your honesty, Layla. I guess we'll just have to see how things play out."

Layla nodded, feeling a mixture of relief and apprehension. "Thank you for understanding, Ashton. I hope we can still be friends, no matter what happens."

Ashton gave her a small, sad smile. "Of course, Layla. We'll figure it out."

As she walked away, Layla felt a sense of resolve. She had taken the first step towards sorting out her feelings, and she knew there would be more difficult conversations ahead. But she was ready to face them, knowing that whatever the outcome, she had done her best to be true to herself and the people she cared about.
