Layla woke up in the nurse's office with a blanket wrapped around her, her head still spinning from the overwhelming events of the evening. Her mom sat beside her, holding her hand tightly as they waited for Layla to fully regain her bearings.

"Mom," Layla whispered, her voice hoarse from crying earlier. "Is Dad really okay?"

Her mom smiled softly, brushing a strand of hair away from Layla's face. "Yes, sweetheart. He's going to be just fine. It was scary for a moment, but the doctors said he's lucky to have escaped with just a few bruises."

Relief flooded Layla's chest, and tears welled up in her eyes again, this time from gratitude. "Thank goodness..."

As Layla tried to compose herself, the nurse stepped in with a cup of water and a gentle smile. "Feeling better, Layla?"

Layla nodded, taking a sip of water to soothe her parched throat. She looked around the room, wondering how everything had changed so drastically in such a short span of time.

Suddenly, the door to the nurse's office creaked open, and Ashton stepped inside, his expression a mix of concern and guilt. He hesitated for a moment before meeting Layla's gaze.

"Layla," Ashton started, his voice soft and filled with remorse. "I heard what happened. I'm so sorry."

Layla's heart ached at the sight of him. Despite everything that had happened between them, a part of her still cared deeply for Ashton. She managed a weak smile, though it didn't quite reach her eyes.

"Thank you," Layla murmured, her voice barely above a whisper. "I... I appreciate you coming."

Ashton took a step closer, his hands shoved into his pockets. "I should have been there for you."

Layla glanced at her mom, who gave her an encouraging nod. Taking a deep breath, Layla spoke softly, "Ashton, there's something I need to tell you."

Ashton nodded, his eyes searching hers. "What is it?"

Layla hesitated, unsure how to start. "My dad... He was in a car accident tonight. It was... it was really scary."

Ashton's eyes widened in shock, his hand reaching out instinctively towards Layla. "Layla, I'm so sorry. Is he okay?"

Layla nodded, tears welling up again. "Yeah, he's going to be fine. But... it was a lot to process."

Ashton nodded slowly, his expression pained. "I can't imagine how you must feel right now."

Layla sighed, feeling a mix of emotions swirling inside her. "I just... I need some time to figure things out."

Ashton nodded again, his shoulders slumping. "I understand. Just know that I'm here for you, Layla. Whatever you need."

Layla managed a small smile, touched by Ashton's sincerity. "Thank you, Ashton. That means a lot."

After a moment of silence, Layla turned to her mom. "Mom, can we go see Dad now?"

Her mom nodded, standing up and helping Layla to her feet. Ashton moved aside to let them pass, his gaze lingering on Layla with a mixture of regret and longing.

At the hospital, Layla found her dad resting comfortably in a hospital bed, surrounded by monitors and tubes. Relief washed over her as she approached him, her mom by her side. Her dad smiled weakly at her, his eyes filled with love and gratitude.

"Dad," Layla whispered, taking his hand gently in hers. "I'm so glad you're okay."

Her dad squeezed her hand, his voice raspy but filled with warmth. "I'm a tough old guy, sweetheart. I'll be back on my feet in no time."

Layla laughed softly through her tears, leaning in to hug him carefully. "I love you, Dad."

"I love you too, Layla," her dad replied, his voice choked with emotion.

As Layla sat by her dad's bedside, she felt a sense of gratitude wash over her. Despite the uncertainties and challenges they had faced, she knew that her family was strong and resilient. And as she glanced back at Ashton in the waiting room, she realized that despite their own struggles, there was still hope for healing and forgiveness in the days to come.
