"What happened-" Kai began, before his thoughts were interrupted. The thing was beside him, a streak of purple following its swift path. Time slowed down. Its jaw began to shake, pre-warning of what attack it was attempting. He was going to bite him.

Before his mind caught up, Talo had already leapt forward and pushed his friend out of the way. He thrust his blade forward, facing his free palm against its top, holding it sideways so Rend could only barely swing his jaw up before the sharp steel clanged against his teeth.

He pressed his forward heel into the soil, as his other foot nearly folded from the force of its resistance. It rasped and breathed, like a human barely standing on the brink of death, each time illuminating the sword and the boy's face with its frightful purple.

He only had begun to notice how hot his hands were getting- they were boiling! He looked to the metal of the weapon to shock and dismay. "It's melting through?!" he murmured. Its body was a furnace dripping with dark sorcery, sending his hands nice and warm as the blade was dissolving away. He fully bit through it, the leftover silver gleam faltering as his saliva tore through the ends of the blade's tip and base.

Talo swiftly dropped the separated parts of the blade, knowing it was no more use to him now. He bounced back, grabbing Kai along the way, pulling him close. The red-clad boy put his index finger and thumb together into a ring, brought it to his lips until a piercing note blasted through. Faint streaks ran by as it ushered towards the creature, before it hit all along his body. Not even a scratch.

"Son of the wicked, what the hell even is that thing?!" he ruptured. Talo tapped his shoulder, alerting him to look backwards, signalling to get behind him. "A Darkened of course. It must be a Level Two to be able to do that. Now, stand back!"

He did as instructed, as Cinger lingered in the same spot, shaken slightly from the Sound spell. He drooled like a wild beast seeing its delicious prey. As the spit fell to the ground, it rid any remaining crisp green blades of grass entirely. They turned dark black, until disintegrating fully. Its focus fell back on the duo, slowly walking backwards.

Talo spotted a small blaze failing in the corner of his peripheral, and saw an opportunity as he looked upon the still relatively burnable patch of grass in front of him, reaching wide and decently long. He brought his two most-left fingers together, pointing them near the flame. It briefly picked up for a moment. The Darkened began to approach at a very slow walking pace.

He flicked his fingers to the left, as the fire swooshed along, following his command. "That should give us a perfectly suitable barrier for a moment! Quick, we need to..." His words dragged along. His mouth stopped as he looked to Mr. Rend's feet, still approaching them even whilst in the small thicket of burning. He was slow. But still just quick enough to make both of them extremely uncomfortable.

As his simple brown boots tread into the land, it seemed like dark magic spread over it. Each step created a small radius around it where the ground became a puddle, so dark purple it could be mistaken for black, and it rippled as his force was put down upon it. Even in his foot's absence, the small pools remained. And as he began to walk into flames, the corruption spread into them.

The glorious orange blaze had become a deep lavender as he creeped his way forward, infecting the flames more and more each and every time. "What in the mighty name of-" Kai quavered, before being interrupted by Talo's blunt words. "We need to defeat this thing!"

Only being able to strictly use magic with no physical weapon was not appealing nor entertaining, but seeing as the blade was nothing but a glorified toothpick and the Faded Blade entirely skipped his mind, he accepted the fact. He wasn't going to give up easily, as long as he still had his two legs to support him, and his friend by his side.
