Chapter 5
April 16 came quicker than I thought it would. I live with my mother and my mother only. My father passed away right after I was born after he overdosed on heroin. Ever since, my mom has been an aloholic. She refuses to get treatment, but watching her life waste away is the worst thing ever.
"Mike! Get up! I'm driving you to the singing thing now." Mom said upstairs. It sounded obvious to me that she was drinking.
"Mom. You're not driving me if you drank." I said.
"Look, live a little, okay? I.. I.. I'm fine.." She fell on the floor.
"Mom!" I screamed. I went down to help her up.
"Yea, ask Barbara next door to take you." she said. I pulled her up off the floor and layed her on the couch. I gave her a bottle of water and put a phone near her just in case. I walked outside and Barbara was already there.
"Do you need a ride?" she said.
"Yup. She's passed out." I said.
"Late night?" she asked.
"Sure. That's why." I said and smiled. The thought of my mom passing out
due to alcohol wasn't happy a thought. I guess I smiled, because I was going to my audition now!
Barbara drove me all the way to Long Island. We live in Brooklyn.
"So, you have to battle against someone?" she asked after a long period of silence.
"Yea. I'm pretty nervous." I said. I started to bite my nails.
"Don't do that. You don't want to get sick while you're on a singing show." she said to me.
We were almost there.
"Is that it over there?" she pointed at a large dome and next to it was a monitor that read "Welcome, X Factor contestants!"
"Yes it is!" I said. I was nervous.
We walked inside the dome. Someone found me immediately.
"Are you Mike Webber?" she said quickly.
"Yea."
"Come with me! We have no time!"
She grabbed my arm and brought me to a stage and handed me a microphone. I was confused.
"Your battles going to be on telivision. It's the only battle this season!" she said to me, "Go sing your heart out, Mike!"
I walked up the right side of the stage. There was already a crowd of people in the audience.
I was finally going to meet the person I was battling against. I saw her walk up the left side of the stage. She had pink hair...
I realized who it was and I gasped in fear.
"Please Welcome, Mike Webber and Daisy Beemount!"....
