Isahaq swiftly introduces his cousins to me. The said bunch of people greet me enthusiastically and Isahaq then informs them about how we know each other through our mothers.

The ice cream corner was just down the street so we started walking on foot through the drenched street.

The soft scent of petrichor lingered in the night air and stray droplets of rainwater dangled from the tips of leaves.

The street was devoid of life except a few rickshaws and cars zooming by every few seconds.

Yashra did not join us as she had to go back to her house and Ella was too young to be included amongst the grown up cousins.

Except for Isahaq, everyone was a stranger to me here and I wondered if I was intruding in their hangout.

Isahaq was walking in front with a few others and I noticed one of the girls seemed to be trying to cling to his side.

As I sidestep a puddle in my path I notice a scary looking stray dog jogging towards us.

My heart rate immediately goes above normal and anxiety courses through my veins.

After an unfortunate incident of being chased by a dog in childhood I had developed a fear of animals which was not going to go away anytime soon.

I stopped walking and stayed rooted to my spot. I knew running away would only make me look more suspicious but I was too scared to even move.

"Scared of dogs?" A tall guy with curly hair asked me from the side.

I just nodded at him and when I noticed the dog coming closer my body unconsciously grappled for refuge by hiding behind the person who was nearest which just happened to be curly haired guy.

" It's okay, just walk normally." He advised but I lost all sense of rational thinking when the dog switched directions and came straight towards my side.

I let out a small yelp and grabbed the guy's shirt and dragged him to my side as a shield.

The dog barked and the guy lightly took hold of my shoulders and pushed me forward, " Just keep walking, I'm right beside you."

I followed his advice and continued forward with swift steps and soon we passed the dog and arrived at safe territory.

" See, wasn't that scary right?" He asks me with a reassuring smile and slides his hands into his pockets.

I let out a breath of relief, " Thanks, uh ?"

" Zamar. And you're?"

" Maha."

He grins widely when he hears my name.

Just then Isahaq jogs backwards towards us with that girl not too far behind him.
