ISAHAQ'S POV

Maha stood there draped in a blue saree, which hugged her figure perfectly while still being perfectly modest.

Our gazes met for a few seconds and I noticed her lifting her hand, probably to fix the hijab framing her face.

I immediately averted my eyes before I could watch more. Not due to her actions but more because I was confused by this sudden rush of emotions which seemed to have knocked the breath out of my chest.

What was wrong with me ?

Did I suddenly fall sick or something?

I peeked towards her from the corner of my eye and saw her talking to Zamar about something before they went separate ways.

I watched her walking away with her cousin as they went towards the food table.

A while later Amna approached me,
" Hi ! How're you?"

" Hey, alhamdulillah. What about you?" I replied politely.

" Great. So, I heard our school is going to host an alumni reunion championship soon . Are you and your friends going?"

" Hmm I guess so."

" Oh, will Taeef be there too ?" She asked about my friend.

" I'm not sure but last I heard he was supposed to be a team captain so most probably yeah."

Hearing this, Amna's eyes brightened and she smiled widely.

" Hi, my cousin and Maha's cousin."

Zamar nodded at me first and then at Amna as he ate god knows what number of a plate of jalebis.

" Your sweet tooth is getting seriously dangerous nowadays." I raise my eyebrows at him in warning.

I loved eating sweets too, but Zamar's obsession was beyond normal and I was worried about his health.

" Relax, I don't go for morning runs for nothing. Everything gets burned off." He took a bite from another jalebi.

" Where did you get those?" Amna asked him and he pointed the dessert table to her.

I sighed and my eyes scanned the perimeter. That's when I saw Maha sitting at the same table as my sister as she ate some snacks.

One of the girls said something which caused everyone to burst out in laughter.

Maha smiled widely and I felt a sudden lurch in my chest. My heart rate sped up and my breath got caught in my throat.

I blinked and took deep breaths,  trying to feel normal again.

She had stopped smiling and was now looking at her plate with a gloomy expression.

I walked over to their table and bent down to my sister, " I think Shahnaz aunty was looking for you a while ago."
