C A S S I A
I want to get out.
It hasn't even been 3 hours yet and I want to jump out of this car. So far, we've argued about everything under the sun.
Really, Dad? My mother wasn't any help to the situation either, she is literally my dad's yes-man.
"Can you please pull over? I need some air." There are many reasons why I hate road trips. Between the motion sickness, and the waves of boredom that randomly appear I don't know which one is worse.
"What did I say earlier? It's not my fault you didn't want to get out." He scoffs and focuses back on the road.
Dude.
"Can you not? You do realize we have to be in this car for another...3 hours, right? The least you can do is try to cooperate with me." I scrunch up my face and try not to grab the wheel my damn self. I cannot believe I'm in this predicament right now. "You know what.." he mumbles and curves the car to the side of the road. I grab onto my seatbelt, and then to the dashboard. Regaining my composure, I whip my head towards him, about to yell when he cuts me off. "You happy now? Go get some air, I stopped." He has this stupid smirk on his face that is basically telling me he finds this funny.
"Are you fucking crazy what is wrong with you? When I told you I wanted some air I meant in a resting area, or a store for Christ's sake. Not on the side of the road. What do you take me for?" I rip open the passenger door and slam it. I go into the trunk, take out my suitcase, and return to the passenger side. "You can go. I'll wait for my parents to come and pick me up." I roll my eyes and slam his door once more.
He looks at me through the window and I watch how his jaw flexes. Irritated, he opens his door and walks out. He approaches me - eyeing me up and down, probably taking in how serious I am. Wrong. He grabs my suitcase and places it back in the trunk returning to where I'm standing, dumbfounded at what he just did. "As you said, we still have 3 hours. You're not going to be the reason we arrive unreasonably late. Get the fuck back in the car."

*alarm goes off*
Ugh.
My door slams open, forcing me up. "Cassia Avery Williams. Your alarm has been going off for 5 minutes." My mom walks towards me and rips my blanket off. "You don't want to be late for your last first day of high school, do you? Get up now." She flicks me on the head and walks out. I've been dreading today. Am I that old? Time does sure fly. I remember first walking into Bayside Heights with a whirlwind of emotions. Am I going to make friends? What is high school life like? How am I going to adapt to this fast-paced environment? Little 14-year-old me would be surprised & proud of where I am now.
I eventually end up getting out of bed, ready for school. Since our school has required uniforms, I don't have to worry about getting up early to pick out an outfit. I go into my bathroom to do a little bit of makeup and put my knotless braids up into a high bun with four braids in the front. I walk back into my room and pick up my phone, reading the group chat's messages from last night.

These girls are my world. Ever since freshmen year, when Sol came running into the girl's locker room because she found out her boyfriend of 2 - yes, 2 months had been cheating on her, Lils and I came to her rescue without even knowing her. Ultimately, we ended up in this close-bonded relationship that none of us would've predicted.
me: GOODDD morningg girlfriends how are you all? the queen has graced your presence
lilss🌸: hey cass do me a favor?
me: ?
lilss🌸: get your ASS out of the house we've literally been waiting outside for almost 10 minutes we're about to be late
What is she talking about? We have to be at school by 8:10. I turn around and check my clock, realizing that I have five more minutes to get to school - shoot. I grab my bag, double-checking to make sure I have everything, and run downstairs. "Bye Mommy, see you later!" I say to my mother and she looks at me & shakes her head at my lateness. I grab my keys and walk to Sol's car, opening the door and getting in. Soleil turns around and raises her eyebrows, waiting for me to explain. "Sorry, sorry everyone. I'm here now am I not?" I answer, tilting my head. Sol turns around & laughs and Lili turns towards me and chuckles. "Off we go!"
We arrived at school a little later than expected, but nothing too bad. We walk to our lockers that are next to each other only because of the request I sent to the principal which he had no choice but to proceed with. What? My father gave a huge grant to this school, okay? He quite literally had no choice.
I start to put my stuff away in my locker when I hear a bunch of snickering and whispering in the hallways. I see that my friends are also indulged, & I look towards them to see what they're looking at confused as to what could be that interesting. And there it is.
Seriously?
