C A S S I A

The three "it" boys of Bayside Heights. I personally never understood the hype, but Liliana and the rest of the damn school beg to differ. All on the football team, everyone in Bayside tends to lose their marbles over them. Considering we haven't lost a game since I've entered high school - I'll give 'em that.

"EARTH TO LILIANA??" Sol snaps, waving her hand in Lil's face. "You good?" She questions, looking at her with uncertainty. "Yeah, sorry I was just thinking about something. What's up?" She grabs her arm and hooks it into Sols. "Oh nothing, just you drooling over Zaire." She says, looking at her, and murmurs, "Wipe your mouth when you're done."

I burst out laughing, closing my locker. To be fair, he is hot. "Guys, please. I am not looking at that boy, my crush on him has been over since junior year, okay? I'm done with that." She refutes while shaking her head. Who is she trying to fool? Liliana has had a huge crush on Zaire for as long as I can remember. He once helped her throw a basketball into the hoop in gym class and I swear we didn't hear the end of it. She'll never actually go for it though, considering his reputation. He is a manwhore if I've ever seen one - and surprisingly a cool person.

"Guys, what's your first class? I have English." I say, changing the subject. Since it's senior year, my only core classes are English and the Calculus class I applied for. "Yay! Same first period. I have-" She suddenly stops talking and looks at something behind me. "You have what?" I retort, confused as to what she is looking at.

I turn my head around and see Lorenzo Garcia.

Regarding our long history, I hate that boy. SO much. He's the epitome of letting the popularity get to your head. His rise to fame in this school has honestly changed him. It's said that he is to be the best quarterback in the state. The whole state of Cali? Hm, yeah right. I'll believe it when I see it.

"You're in my way." He announces, gesturing for me to move. "That's my locker, 13B." He points to his locker with his arm right beside my face. "Funny. We're right next to each other...how surprising." He adds on as a strand of his hair falls into his eyes while looking down at me. He smirked that infuriating smirk that I wanted to slap right off. What's so amusing?

"You know, an excuse me can go a long way. Or, have your manners gone out the window along with your dignity too?" I chastised, folding my arms. He sticks his tongue through his cheek, and I watch as his Adam's apple bobble up and down, clearly annoyed with what I said. "I don't have the time for this."

"All you need to say is excuse me. I know that your mother taught you better. Tell her I said hey, by the way." I smile, remembering his sweet mother that I haven't seen in a while. Can't say the same for him. Fortunately, this summer they went on vacation so I didn't have to see him around considering that we live on the same block. I would describe our family's relationship as tight-knit, and I used to say the same for us.

But people change.

He squeezes his knuckles until they turn white and grits out, "Excuse me, Cassia." Gosh, I love making him annoyed. It is so enjoyable to see him get irritated, knowing that I hit a nerve. "Wasn't that hard now, was it?" I retort and eventually move out of his way. I walk over to Sol and Lili, seeing the bewildered look on their faces. They know all about what happened between the two of us and were very supportive when it came to hearing my side. I doubt they could give a shit about his. I check my watch and see that class is about to start.

"Guys, first period? We're going to be late." I look up and gesture to the overhead clock above us. "Are we just going to ignore what happened?" Soleil utters, signaling to the conversation I unwillingly had with Lorenzo. "Don't make it a big deal. You know I despise him with every bone in my body. Gosh, if I could I would kill him in cold blood with my own hands-"

"Okay! That's enough." Liliana replies, fixing my hair and looking at me with a tight-lipped smile. "I have to get to class now but let's meet up at lunch." She then proceeds to kiss both Sol and me on the cheek and disappears into the hallway. Sol re-grabs my arm and hooks it. "Ready? The first class of senior year.." She wipes the non-existent tear from her eye and I laugh. We both walk to English class, taking our seats and watching our teacher talk away.
