L O R E N Z O

"Son, you're still home?" My father asks as he enters the kitchen and makes his coffee. "Yeah, I'm about to leave though," I say, grabbing water out of the fridge.

"Hijo, before you go. In about a week, we'll be going to Fresno to host an event. He calmly says as he sips his coffee. "Really? What for?" I inquire. "It's due to my company expanding across 4 continents." He smiles brightly, patting me on my shoulder.

"Wow, papá that's amazing." I raise my eyebrows amazed at the accomplishment. My father owns a tech company that skyrocketed to success due to the products he innovated, which quickly gained popularity and became a household name in the tech industry. "I think your mother is more excited than I am about this." He laughs. I smile at his remark while getting up and grabbing my keys for school.

"Also, the Williams will be attending with us, co-hosting if you will. You know they're a huge part of our lives as of ours. I swear, when I first met Michael it's as if we clicked instantly. I didn't know this man from anywhere and he just-"

What? "Like, all of them?" I ask as I chuckle. No way she's coming. "Of course! They're family to us. This will be like the vacation we never got to have." My father says as he reminisces and takes a call, leaving the kitchen.

I scoff. It's like no matter where I am, she's always going to be there. It's like a fly continually buzzing in your ear and every time you try to swat it, you miss. That's exactly what she is. That pest never goes away.

Whatever, I'm not gonna let this get to me. All I have to do is ignore her. That should be pretty easy, considering she hates me too. Why am I even tripping?

I eventually leave the house, and I'm in my car driving to Mikaela's house to pick her up for school. We've been hanging out for a while now, and she is absolutely mesmerizing. I can't even stop staring at her, she's captivated me completely.

I slow down near her house, waiting for her to come out. She closes her front door, and my eyes stare her down. My gaze is fixated on her ass, lowering to her bare legs. It's as if her skirt gets shorter every time I see her. She walks to my car and I see her long dark hair sway in the wind.

"Hey," She says as she enters my car, putting her bag on the floor and giving me a peck on my lips. "Ready?" I say, as I start the car and start to drive.

She turns towards me and runs her hand through my hair, looking straight ahead. "Do you have  practice today?" she asks, still looking ahead.

"Yeah, after school. Why?" I come to a red light and look at her. "I wanted to come over but if you have practice you're not coming home 'till like 8." She giggles and bites her lip. I raise my eyebrows in response, "You're right about that."

I step on the pedal. "Enz, I have a question. Why is there a picture of you and Cassia in your room? I know you guys aren't friends so..." She looks at me with a raised brow.

Fuck.

"I don't know. It's old. It has no meaning if that's what you're concerned about." I glance at her, annoyed. Why was she even looking through my stuff in the first place? I turned the frame down for a reason. It's irrelevant.

"I just find it weird. She told me you guys drifted apart or whatever, but I just don't understand why it's in your room." She looks out the window, biting down on her thumb.

"The fuck do you mean she told you we drifted apart, you asked her about it?" I snap. Does this girl withhold any type of common sense? For one, I know that they aren't friends. Ever since that whole incident in Biology, I've never seen Cassia look so irritated by a person before.

"Uh, yes? If the guy I'm hanging out with has pictures of him posed up with some random bitch that they're not friends with who in their right mind wouldn't ask? Look, I don't want to argue. I was just curious, that's all." She flips her hair to her back and goes on her phone.

"Why were you even looking through my stuff anyway? Listen, Mikaela. I just met you. That doesn't give you the right to ask questions about my past and the things I have going on in my life that don't concern you. Just leave it alone." I press down hard on the pedal, irritated. The audacity of this girl.

"Whatever, let's just get to school." She turns her phone off and glances at me. I don't even bother returning the look as I drive us to school.

I get out of the car, and I go to the passenger side to open the door for her. She seems annoyed, but it's not really bothering me, to be honest. She did that to herself. That picture holds no meaning. I reach my hand out to her as she sits with her arms crossed looking straight ahead.

"Look, I'll throw the picture out when I get home okay?" I reassure her, saying whatever to make her get over it. "You sure?" She turns her head at me, and I nod. She grabs my hand and I help her out of the car, kissing her neck as she chuckles and playfully slaps me. We enter school, hand in hand as I feel everyone's gaze on us as everyone goes quiet. People stop what they're doing and focus solely on us, which I get. If I were them, I would want to be me too.

I look to my side and see Williams. We stare at each other for a while, neither of us breaking eye contact. She eventually scoffs and laughs, returning to what she was doing. I don't even bother when it comes to her. She hates my guts, and I've learned to do the same.

I kiss Mikaela before leaving her and going to my locker. I glance to my left to look at Williams, spotting a Darth Vader sticker on her locker door. She always has loved Star Wars, maybe more than I ever did. Ever since we fell out, I don't think I've ever watched or touched anything relating to it.

She catches my gaze, making a justifiable face to my staring. I didn't even notice I was staring at her. "You still like Star Wars, huh?" I say, nodding at the sticker. Her face softens, and she glances at the sticker. She shrugs, closing her locker. "Yeah, I do." She walks off, and I nod slowly. I close my locker and lock it, also walking off. I feel the urge to turn around and watch her walk off, that feeling quickly being replaced with self-awareness.

Knock it off.

C A S S I A

I'm in gym class, stretching while thinking about what I'll do when I get home. Unlike many people, I enjoy gym class. I like being active and I like to stretch because it makes me feel light and prepared for whatever. Weird, I know. I go to the bleachers and sit while adjusting my shoelaces, thinking about the other stretches I could do in the meantime.

"Hey, Cassia." I turn my head and see Mikaela approaching me, and she takes a seat.

"Hey," I mumble.

"I didn't know you had this class." Yeah, well you don't notice many things.

I nod in response.

"So, what you doing?" She asks. "Do you need anything?" I ask, tightening my ponytail. We're not friends so I don't know why she keeps approaching me. She does not like me.

"All I was trying to do was be nice, geez. By the way, I asked Enzo about the picture. He kept trying to brush it off which I find weird but, whatever. I don't know why you guys fell out but to be honest you're missing out. Gosh, he is perfect - I've never met anyone like him." She plays with her necklace as she absentmindedly rambles about football boy. I couldn't care less.

"Not to be disrespectful or anything, but are you those type of girls that only talk about boys? You keep saying you're trying to be nice to me but everything that comes out of your mouth has to do with Lorenzo." I stand up. "You may think he's all perfect and goody two shoes but there's a reason he and I aren't friends anymore. Also, you're not the first girl in Bayside that Lorenzo has flaunted - there were many and there will be many more to come. That boy isn't innocent and he will break your heart sooner or later." I walk to the volleyball court, leaving her at the bleachers.

He is an asshole and only cares for himself. She'll figure it out eventually.
