Chapter 13

The following morning, Simon jumped out of bed with a renewed energy. The world around him looked brighter and less threatening that it had ever done with his worries and doubts now gone. Making himself a cuppa in the kitchen, he grinned on hearing the familiar patter of small feet on the floor behind him.

He turned and smiled at the small sleepy figure of Emily as she rubbed her eyes "Morning sweetheart" he said softly, opening his arms for a hug. With Emily clinging to his neck and his arm securely holding her tight, he talked her through making breakfast in their now familiar routine.

Georgia appeared just as they were putting food on the plates. Placing her hand on Simon's back, she kissed Emily on the cheek "Morning munchkin, you sleep okay in your own bed?" she asked gently.

Emily responded with a definite "Yes".

When Georgia looked up at Simon, he felt that instant buzz in his chest. Leaning down, he kissed her on the lips, whispering "Morning love".

Emily started giggling and making kissing noises, obviously amused at this new development, so Simon laughed and kissed Georgia several times in succession, making exaggerated 'mwah' sounds. Georgia blushed and giggled at his actions and Emily squealed, making her oen attempt at kissing sounds. Simon laughed and kissed Emily repeatedly on the cheek, enjoying her laughing and squealing.

Sat at the dining table having breakfast, Simon glanced between the two of them, observing Georgia checking on her daughter while she wriggled and rambled. When Georgia looked over to him, she gave him the most beautiful smile, making his heart flutter uncontrollably. He wanted to wake up to this every morning.

Once Emily was washed and dressed, Simon played games with her on the floor while Georgia took a call from work. His mind drifted to the thought of going back to work, back to reality. The momentary jolt of disappointment that this time was coming to an end, was quickly pushed aside as he reminded himself that he was coming back.

When Georgia joined them back in the room, he checked with her "Everything okay with work love?"

"Yeah, they wanted to check up on how Emily was doing. They said that after her follow up, she'll be able to go back to creche. So I'll be going back to work a week Monday" she said simply.

"How do you feel about that love?" he asked tentatively.

"It feels good. They have someone that will keep and eye on her and it will be good for her to get back into a routine. If there's any issues, then I'm close by" she said with a smile.

Knowing that with Georgia going back to work, he would also be leaving, Simon felt the dip in mood at having to part with them. He understood her reasoning and knew that she needed to get back to work, he just wasn't looking forward to saying goodbye and returning to base.

Seeing that Simon looked thoughtful at the news, Georgia asked "You okay Simon? Will that mean you'll be going back on duty?"

Simon nodded "Yeah, now Emily's well and you're returning to work, I'll have to head back" he said simply.

Sensing there was more, Georgia prodded "Is that a problem Simon? I thought your captain was okay with you taking leave?" she queried.

"Yeah, he was fine with it, just........still got a lot of explaining to do when I get back. Not looking forward to that" he said with a roll of his eyes.

Georgia sat down beside him and looked at him with a puzzled expression. "Shocked Price when I told him I was here with you" he said with a dry laugh.
