Over the next few weeks, Simon moved seamlessly into his new routine as though it was an extended leave. He loved his mornings of waking up with Georgia, enjoying spending time together, making love, whispering sweet words of affection, as though there wasn't a care in the world. He watched in awe as her belly started to swell with their growing child, unable to resist caressing the bump or holding it protectively.
He would get up and greet Emily, enjoying the morning hugs and talking her through making breakfast for their family. While Georgia was still working, he'd see them off before going for a run. He enjoyed having the freedom to train with no mission in mind before relaxing on the porch with a cuppa, enjoying the peace and tranquillity.
He'd spend the day doing chores around the home and property before making food for when Georgia and Emily would return. They'd spend their evenings in the garden or down at the creek, relaxing in the Autumn sunshine. Evenings meant bedtime stories with Emily and cuddles on the sofa with Georgia, talking about their plans for the future and the upcoming birth of their child.
The next scan came around quickly and Simon proudly accompanied his wife and daughter in nervous anticipation at the prospect of getting a glimpse of their growing child. They'd discussed the night before about whether or not they wanted to know the baby's sex.
Simon really didn't care either way, he was simply excited about the new baby. "I'm happy with what you want love" he said softly as he caressed the growing bump affectionately.
"I think I'd like to know. We can get the nursery decorated and decide on names. I know Emily is excited about the baby, but I think she's still a bit confused. I think it will be easier for her if she knows if she'll have a brother or sister" Georgia had reasoned.
Now in the clinic room, Simon lifted Georgia onto the examination couch, much to the nurse's amusement. "Benefits of having a strong husband" Georgia said giggling and blushing at his loving care.
Emily sat on the bed with her mum as Simon sat by the bedside, clinging onto Georgia's hand, eagerly awaiting what would appear on the screen. The nurse manoeuvred the wand over Georgia's belly and started to point out hands, feet and the head. Emily bounced and clapped excitedly "baby hands". she cried out.
When the nurse turned on the heartbeat monitor, Simon felt his heart swell as he listened to the baby's heartbeat. Emily looked around in wonderment at hearing the sounds "That's what your heart sounded like when you were in mama's tummy" Georgia whispered softly.
"Would you and your husband like to know the baby's sex?" the nurse asked softly. Georgia and Simon looked at each other and both nodded.
Simon held his breath as the nurse moved to get a better view. It didn't take her long to find what she was looking for "Well Mr and Mrs Banks, you are having a boy" she said smiling at them both.
When Georgia turned to Simon smiling, she saw that he had tears in his eyes. Pulling him towards her, he hugged her tightly before kissing her lightly on the lips. "Hear that Emily, it's a baby boy, you're going to have a little brother" Simon said softly.
"Baby boy" Emily chanted bouncing on the bed excitedly.
That evening once Emily was in bed, Simon and Georgia relaxed on the sofa, taking in the events of the day. "How you feeling Simon?" Georgia asked kissing his cheek lightly.
Simon smiled "Feel bloody fantastic love. Just seeing that little lad on the screen and hearing his heartbeat. Damn I thought my chest would burst" he said chuckling.
"What do you think about names? Have you thought of what you want your son to be called?" she asked more directly.
"Well traditionally he'd be named after me or my dad, but I ain't calling my son after that bastard" he said seriously. "Simon junior sounds a bit odd, so what about after your dad?" he asked more softly, turning to her.
