At first, I couldn't believe my eyes. Not after that failed attempt of a conversation.
I didn't expect to see this man so soon. After he walked away so suddenly, I thought it would take so much time and effort just to see him again.
But I suppose his compassion and gentleness is what made him my favorite character.
Lance came running down the hall towards me and Isadora in a hurry.
My eyes went wide. I couldn't help but feel happy. "Excuse me, but are you ladies alright?" He asks, panting slightly.
"A-ah. We're fine," I stuttered.
"That looked like a tough situation back there. I got worried," He said, his tone kind and warm.
I couldn't help but blush. Seeing him up close, so worried about us like this. It feels nice. He then looks over at Isadora. Her stained dress caused him to worry even more. "I believe you are Lady Isadora?" He greets Isadora. The black-haired girl was surprised when he called out to her "Y-yes."
"So it's true that the Viscountess took you in?" He asks, to which Isadora nods. His blue eyes studied her. Lance reached into his pocket and pulled out a handkerchief "You can use this to clean up your dress," He handed it to Isadora.
Just then, I remembered. This was Isadora's and Lance's first meeting in the novel. After a confrontation with Marian, her dress was stained with wine. To which, Lance will approach her and give her his handkerchief. From then on, his feelings for her will blossom.
Isadora meekly accepts the cloth. She looks up at him, her turquoise eyes meeting his blue ones. "Thank you, Lord Lance," A small smile appears on her face. Lance gives her a kind smile in return. Then, he chuckled. Not a condescending, or rude chuckle. It seemed to be out of playfulness. "Lady Isadora... I didn't realize you were so courageous. You were great back there."
Isadora stumbled back. Her eyes showed confusion and her mouth was agape "Me?" Lance chuckles again. From what I can see, his attention was focused solely on Isadora.
Ah... Of course.
Violette is just a background character. While Isadora's romantic life blossoms, Violette remains in her shadow. Unnoticed, just in the background. People don't notice her. Isadora gets all the attention while Violette remains alone. Lance probably forgot that I'm even standing here.
Nothing has changed I suppose.
"That goes for you too, Lady Violette."
"Huh?"
Just then, Lance turns to me "I have heard rumors of the Itzal house. You and your sister are just as beautiful as they say." His words made my heart flutter "O-oh, your words flatter me, Lord Lance," I turned away, embarrassed. He shakes his head "It's not flattery, you truly are a sight to behold,"
Butterflies filled my stomach. I couldn't figure out how to respond.
"I admire anyone who can own up to their mistakes. Though, perhaps you were too apologetic back then," He sighs. "But, you do seem like a genuine person. I would love to talk to you more perhaps,"
Ah?! Talk with me?
My eyes went wide "T-talk with me?!" I blurted out. Lance tilts his head "Yes? Is something wrong with that?" He looks at me for a moment. "Of course, I'm won't stop you from returning home anymore,"
I wanted to stay longer, but I'm also stressed from the night. Though, I may never get this chance again. How can I find another opportunity to chat with Lance?
My eyes wandered to the handkerchief. "Your handkerchief... I'll come by your estate to return it," I said. Lance's eyes then lit up. One final time, he gave me a smile. This smile was so lovely, it made my heart skip a beat "I see. When you come over, shall we have a proper chat this time?"
I gripped my dress out of reflex. Nodding profusely, I agree to his invitation. He chuckles "Very well then. I shall wait for you, my lady," And with that, he turns back to the ballroom.
My heart felt like it was going to jump out of my chest. So dashing! So handsome! I'm so glad to have been reborn here! Ahhh, my dreams will come true! It was so difficult to contain my excitement.
Isadora must have noticed my mood "Lady Violette?" She mumbles. I turned to her and gestured to her to follow me. "Let's head home," I smiled, feeling like all the shame I went through the night was all worth it in the end.
