_______________________________________Peppermint, for once, is in class. And he's early.
It's a shocking enough sight Mr. Atom gives him a long suspicious look. He puts on his best innocent expression but he doesn't really seem to buy it. Eh, whatever. He still has a lesson to teach so he'll look away eventually. The moment he does Peppermint turns around to face a suspicious PJ, who's splitting his attention between him and the board.
“Hey, remember the weird guy we saw with Mr. Dream at the mall?”
PJ pretends to not hear him but gives up after enough persistent pokes from his pencil. PJ zero, Peppermint one. “Yeah?”
“He's here.”
“What!?”
That gets PJ’s attention. His head immediately turns towards Peppermint, but Peppermint is innocently looking ahead. Mr. Atom chose that moment to turn around so PJ ends up being scolded as he didn't exactly catch Peppermint in the act. Peppermint only smirks at the venomous glare on PJ’s face once their teacher turns to the board again.
“Yeah, I saw him walking around outside with Mr. Dream. Think he'll be a new teacher?”
PJ rolls his eyes. “Of course the one time you choose to attend class is to gossip.”
Peppermint chucks a peppermint at him. “Well?” PJ throws the peppermint back at him before answering, but he only catches it in his mouth and swallows it.
He mentally adds another point for himself.
“Probably not. My dad hasn't said anything about that. Besides, didn't Mr. Dream have some boring speech about a sports event last week? Do you think he could be a volunteer?”
Peppermint perks up at that, leaning back slightly in his chair. Yeah, he vaguely remembers that. He isn't really sure since he slept through most of it. It's not his fault it was so boring! He leans forward when Mr. Atom turns around again, doing his best impression of a studious totally focused skeleton. The only thing he gets is an unimpressed look and another suspicious glance. Rude. Understandable, but still rude.
“That's the smartest idea you've ever had!”
“I literally have the highest grade in the school.”
Peppermint just ignores him and eagerly raises his hand in the air, waving it around till Mr. Atom gives up on ignoring him. “Yes?”
There's a pointed tone matching his gaze in the word, but Peppermint pretends not to notice. “Can I go to the bathroom?”
“You are a skeleton.” Mr. Atom gives him an incredulous look.
“It's rude to assume!”
“I am a skeleton.”
“So?”
He knows it's not his best excuse, but whatever. He's too lazy to come up with another one. The roof is practically calling him. The moment he's out of this classroom, he's going right up there to take a nap. Who told them to have school so early in the day? Maybe if it was a little later in the day he wouldn't be skipping class all the time!
