When I woke up, people were around me and had different sticky things on my chest. "Ay Ay Ay paws off!!" I yelled "Hey sussie, my name is Maria, you had a heart attack" she said, looking at monitors hooked up to apparently me. "Really? I'm only 16!" I said, concerned "Wait, where am i? Wheres my boyfriend?" i asked, looking around the room. There was a chaplain there. A bloody chaplain!? "Yeah hi father, what the 'ell is going on!?" i asked, shouting. "You had a heart attack, and you almost died girl, but you were brought back to life. You will be okay" said the chaplain. "Are you christian, catholic or something else?" he then asked. "Catholic, why?" i asked him, then looked around for my moms rosary. The nurse had it in her hand, and gave it to me. I breathed a silent "Thank you" to the nurse, and she said "Your welcome girl, now let me check you over" She had a wonderful accent that i couldnt place. Then i realized that my promise ring was not here, so i said "Tony tony turn around, somethings lost...that must be found" 3 times, then the nurse with the wonderful accent, i believe her names maria, she said "Is this yours girl?" while holding a ring which looked like a carbon copy of the LOTR ring...my ring! "Yes thats my ring thank you so much!" i said, happy. "Your welcome girl, how ya feeling?" she asked me. "Tired but alright thank you." I answered her then realised. "I'm in the same hospital my boyfriend is in, hold on!!" And decided to get up, start walking around trying to find him. I went all the way to the lobby then saw him. He was BARRELING towards me, which I don't mind but "Hi honey!! Woah, be careful!" I said as I landed on the floor with a thud. "Dear, sorry Schatzi, are you okay?" He asked me. "Bit bruised, I apparently had a heart attack!? But yeah I'm fine" I answered him, recounting to him what happened. "Yeah I know you had one, I was there when they called code blue on you" which made my face fall as flat as a pancake. He took my face in his hand and made me look at him. "Hey, hey. Look at me Schatzi, you're okay?" To which I nodded assent, and he continued with "then I'm okay, okay my love?" To which I gave him a hug as my answer. Then our parents came up to us, with P and her parents in tow. "Hey mum!" I said, and Mama proceeded to LOSE HER SHIT when I told her what happened. "YOU HAD A HEART ATTACK!?" She yelled in the middle of the lobby. "Yes I did, I've had tests run they fixed the problem I'm fine! Now please stop yelling!" I said to her, trying to be nice but it's hard. Stefan's papa had a similar reaction of shouting. "Hey P, you alright?" I asked. "Yeah but what the hell lass! You were in the hospital for a HEART ATTACK!!" She shouted. She's as bad as Mum, that one! Her parents ended up cooing over me and Stephan, we were offered multiple dishes of chicken vindaloo, and biriani and samosas and more! Parvatas mother gave me a small bottle with a gold liquid inside. "Put this in your tea, 3 times a day and it will heal you" she said. Eh, I don't believe in that, but I won't be rude. "Thank you so much ma'am, I'll make sure to use it" I said, then mum said we had to go. I went to the car and put myself in the car when stefan went with me, and when i shut the door, he knocked so i could roll the window down. "Hey my princess" he said, kissing my hand. "Hey you" I said; tired. "I'll see you at home my love" he said, kissing me. As the car drove away, I watched Stefan standing on the sidewalk, his smile lingering in my mind. "Anyway mom, there's a dude who's been calling my phone for 6 months, do we know someone who's got my number but who's number I don't?" I asked. My mom glanced at me in the rearview mirror. "No babes, I don't. That's weird." She said; checking her own phone. My phone rang, and I answered it. "You will die by the years end" to which I gave mom the phone. "Why are you calling my daughter?" Mom asked. They hung up! I looked at my mother, fear creeping up my spine. "What do I do??" I ask, scared. We pulled in the driveway and I grabbed the plastic bag that hospitals give for people's belongings. I felt something hard, cold and pointy in my bag. I didn't bring anything like that with me... I cautiously pulled out the mysterious object from the bag and discovered it was a small, silver key. "Mommm!!!" I shouted, looking at the number on the key. 2113. "Yeah?? Oh. Is that yours?" She asked me. I'm not sure honestly. Curiosity consuming me, I felt an irresistible urge to uncover the secret behind the key. I walked in the house, throwing my bag on my bed; kicking my shoes off and plopping on my desk chair. "Places that use 2113 on their keys" I typed into google. The search results quickly filled my screen, revealing a variety of seemingly unrelated places and items. Till I found one, a jewelry store on 8th street. My heart raced with anticipation as I read the description of the jewelry store that matched the number on the key. "Anna's jewelers, connoisseurs of diamonds since 1863" read the description. I guess 2113 must be a key they need? "Mom! I'm taking the car! I'll be back in 2 hours!" I shout to mom. With a sense of purpose, I grabbed the key and rushed downstairs, a glimmer of hope filling my chest. Crap, I forgot. Those doctors put me on medication for my heart. I need to take those now. I fumbled in my pocket, searching for the pill bottle that contained my heart medication. Phew. Now that that's over, I gotta get in the car. "Google, navigate to Anna's Jewelers on 8th Avenue" I GPS'd myself straight there, and parked. I walked in and saw a balding man and a elderly lady. "Hello? I have a key that I think belongs to you" I said, fear in my eyes. The balding man and elderly lady exchanged bewildered glances before the man spoke up. "I thought people forgot about us." He said, in bewilderment. "What? Your google site is full of good reviews. Anyway this is yours?" I asked. I held up the key, its simple shape gleaming in the light. "Yes; it is child. Where did you find it?" Asked them both. I hesitated for a moment, trying to recall the exact location where I had stumbled upon the key. "It was in my hospital bag, I found it when I came home today, and I figured you would want it back" I said. The elderly lady reached out her trembling hand and gently took the key from me, a mixture of relief and wonder spreading across her face. "Is it something important?" I asked curiously. The elderly woman's eyes twinkled with nostalgia as she clasped the key tightly in her hand. "Important? It's more important than the fate of the universe, child!" The man boomed with his thundering voice. His booming voice echoed through the room, causing everyone within earshot to turn their heads. "Sorry" he whispered. "Yes child, we are very important people, if you would like to know what; follow us to the back room" every fiber in my being was screaming to go back to the car and go home, but my mind was saying the opposite. I hesitated for a moment, torn between my instincts and curiosity. I let curiosity win. I went back in the storeroom. "We are guardians of words" said the woman. "Words? What do you mean?" I asked, confused. The woman chuckled softly, her eyes gleaming with a mysterious glint. "We protect the world, and it's words from the Kil'awars" she said. My heart began to race as her words sank in. Kil'awars? "What are the Kil'awars?" I asked, scared. The woman's face grew serious as she began to explain the ancient battle between the Guardians and the Kil'awars, the creatures that fed off the words of the world. "And your mother was a part of us" she said. "What? No way!" I said, in shock. They pulled out a photo album, with a bunch of pictures. Old men, old ladies and- a familiar face. It was my mother, young and vibrant, standing alongside the Guardians with a determined expression on her face. "Mom." I breathed. "Did you know my father?" I asked them. "Oh yes, Aron. He was a wonderful man. A shame he passed on to the next world"they replied with a touch of melancholy. Tears grew in my eyes, hot and salty. I reached out and took the photo album from their hands, gently flipping through the pages as memories of a long-lost family flooded my heart. "He died from the same thing I was in the hospital for, a heart attack" I said, sobbing. They brought a velvet lined case out from a spot in the back. "We've been waiting to meet you child. This is a gift for you" they said, giving it to me. Curiosity mingled with trepidation as I cautiously opened the velvet lined case. A gold necklace was inside, with my name inscribed on the back. They gave me a card, with the words "Sussie McAllister, order of communication, 3rd class" I stared at the gold necklace in awe, feeling the weight of its significance in my hands. I fastened it on my neck, and placed the card in my pocket. As I wore the gold necklace, a warmth spread through my body, an inexplicable connection to something greater, something timeless. "Do you know why someone's been calling me for 6 months now?" I asked, confused. "Yes, the Kil'awars did that. They're able to sound like humans, so that's why. Bring us your phone next week and we will cast spells to protect you." I stared at them. "Thank you, mom is gonna expect me now" I said, saying goodbye. I walked out of the store, my mind spinning with thoughts of magic and protection. I need to go home. "Mom mom mom! Guess what?" I asked. "You've found it, haven't you?" She asked; solemnly. "Yes momma, I have a necklace and card and everything!" My mom's eyes teared up as she embraced me tightly. "Your father would be so proud" she said. I looked up at a picture of him, from a newspaper clipping from like 1999. He won some huge tournaments when he was my age.
