"No. no, no!" I shouted at the screen, not that Meredith or Cameron could hear me.
My mind started racing with ideas on how to stop them without attracting attention. It didn't help that Sheriff Parkinson noticed Cameron grabbing his shotgun and disappearing out the back with Meredith. He waited a few moments then followed. There was no way I could physically go to them without the sheriff noticing.
I grabbed my phone and immediately called Meredith. Unsurprisingly, she rejected my call. I tried again to no avail. It wasn't like she ever listened to me before, so it really wasn't much of a shock. My eyes darted around the screen, landing on Naomi who like the others were oblivious to Meredith leaving. Without even thinking I scrolled down and clicked on her name to call her. She looked at her phone, confused by the unknown number and eventually swiped it to reject the call as well.
"No, now's not the time to be blocking unknown numbers!" I groaned in exasperation and immediately called her again.
This time she answered, "Who is this?"
"It's me," I answered simply and firmly.
"Who- oh! Um, what is it? Should you even be calling? Is this about our friend in the hospital?" Naomi questioned, trying to avoid mentioning any names.
"No, worse. Look around, Meredith walked out. You need to go after them now!" I ordered.
"What? Oh where the hell did she go!?" Naomi jumped out of her seat, then gave Dylan a smack on the shoulder to motion that Meredith had left.
Swapping to the town's CCTV system, I followed the pair as they walked to the outskirts. "They're heading north to the woods!"
Judging by the change of background noise, Naomi had gone outside, "They? Who is she with?"
"Cameron. Cameron Doyle."
"What? Why?"
I took a deep breath, "He's been marked, Naomi."
Naomi paused before responding, "By Triple-6?"
"Yes."
"So are they moving to a safe location or..."
"It turns out Meredith remembered where she was held and she's leading him there now."
"Why doesn't she just tell the police? The sheriff was inside just earlier..."
"He's already following them. Dani asked him to tail Cameron tonight."
"Hang on, how do you know all of this?"
"Naomi, do you really have to ask?"
"Sweet lord, is there a phone you haven't hacked?" Naomi groaned.
"Naomi stay focused on the objective."
"I don't get it, if Sheriff Parkinson's already on the job, what do you need me to do?"
"The sheriff doesn't have any backup and doesn't know what they're headed into."
"Has it occurred to you that perhaps you should be telling him that?" I didn't need to see her face to know she was scowling.
"I'm trying to stop a terrible tragedy from happening! You might be the only one that Meredith will listen to!" I defended. "They think they can catch Triple-6 off guard and kill him! What do you think is going to happen when they see the sheriff behind them?"
"Oh fuck..."
"Exactly! Stop her!"
"All right, all right! I'll give her a call, but she may not respond!"
