"You..." The mermaid gasped, his voice trembling with disbelief.

Shadow was momentarily stunned as the creature began to speak. He could have sworn that they stared into each other's eyes for what felt like hours-his crimson eyes locked with the creature's vivid emerald ones.

The world around them seemed to fade, leaving just the two of them in a silent, intense exchange. Both were lost in their thoughts, captivated by the other's gaze, as unspoken understanding and curiosity passed between them.
The blue mermaid quickly sat up, looking absolutely terrified. He screamed out of his mind, "AAAHH!"

His scream caused the black hedgehog to yelp a bit, startled by the sudden outburst. Shadow instinctively took a step back, his crimson eyes widening in surprise.

"Who are you?" Shadow demanded, his voice steady but tinged with curiosity and caution.

The blue mermaid, still trembling, tried to compose himself. "I-I'm Sonic.." he said, his voice shaky. "Who are you? How am I ended up here?"

Shadow's gaze softened slightly, seeing the genuine fear and confusion in the mermaid's emerald eyes.

"I'm Shadow," he replied. "I found you unconscient at the beach..and you seemed to have big cuts on your tail.."

"Wait, what do you mean?" Sonic asked, his eyes wide with confusion and concern. He glanced down at his tail and noticed the carefully wrapped bandages covering his wounds.

A flood of memories started to return to him, vivid and fragmented, as he began to piece together the chaotic scene that had led to his injuries.

The pain was still there, but the bandages offered a strange sense of relief and safety. Slowly, the events came back to him: the struggle, the fear, and the moment when everything had gone dark.

"...." Sonic quickly looked at Shadow, his eyes wide with disbelief. He couldn't believe that Shadow had actually saved him.

"..T-Thank you.." Sonic said, his voice shaky as he began to calm down. He looked at his bandaged tail fin, the realization of his rescue slowly sinking in.

"You're welcome," Shadow replied quietly, a faint smile playing at the corners of his mouth. His eyes held a mixture of relief and concern as he glanced at Sonic's bandaged tail fin, silently acknowledging the gravity of the situation they had just escaped.

Suddenly, Sonic was caught off guard as Shadow picked him up and gently placed him in the bathtub, carefully supporting his injured tail fin.

Sonic's cheeks flushed a delicate shade of pink, a mix of surprise and gratitude spreading across his face as he found himself unexpectedly in Shadow's care. He couldn't help but feel touched by the gesture, the gentle concern in Shadow's eyes soothing his nerves despite the unusual circumstances.

Unexpectedly, the two of them heard Sonic's stomach rumble loudly in the quiet room.

"You seem to be hungry," Shadow remarked, a hint of amusement in his voice as he turned towards Sonic.

Sonic chuckled sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head. "Y-yeah heh.." he admitted with an embarrassed face while looking down.

"Don't worry, I'll bring you something to eat," Shadow said calmly, offering Sonic a reassuring smile before heading out of the room to fetch food.

"O-okay," Sonic replied softly, his voice tinged with gratitude as he settled into the bathtub, feeling oddly comforted by Shadow's presence and concern.

'He seems to be a great guy,' Sonic thought to himself, reflecting on Shadow's actions and the care he had shown.

Soon, Shadow returned with a plate that held slices of watermelon and apples, a refreshing and comforting sight for Sonic after the ordeal they had been through.

"What is that?" Sonic asked, his curiosity piqued as he looked at the plate of watermelon and apples Shadow had brought.

"Slices of watermelon and apples, a great fruit dish for you," Shadow replied gently.

"What is a fruit?" Sonic questioned.

"Fruits are delicious and healthy foods that grow on plants," he explained, taking a moment to describe them to Sonic.

"You've never eaten this before?" Shadow asked, a hint of surprise in his voice as he observed Sonic's reaction to the plate of fruit.

"No... I've never saw this type of food in my life," Sonic admitted, his voice tinged with curiosity and a hint of nostalgia for his usual diet of seafood like seaweeds and algae He took a bite of a slice of watermelon, savouring the sweetness and juiciness.

"I see," Shadow said, nodding in understanding.

"Mhm~, these taste good, thanks, Shadow :D! " Sonic chimed in happily, waving his tail cutely as he continued to enjoy the fruit.

Shadow couldn't help but smile at how cute Sonic's reaction was to the fruit, his appreciation evident in the playful way Sonic waved his tail.

'Cute.. Wait, what?!' Shadow quickly snapped out of his thoughts, feeling a blush creep onto his face. He was relieved that Sonic didn't seem to notice his reaction.

Hours passed by, and the two of them kept talking about their interests, abilities, and lives. Sonic was mostly the one asking questions to Shadow, who found it amusing and enjoyable to share some details about himself.

"So, are you a mermaid or something?" Shadow asked curiously.

"I'm a merhog," Sonic replied proudly, clarifying his unique identity with a hint of amusement.

"Cool," Shadow responded with a nod, showing his interest and appreciation for Sonic's unique merhog nature.

"Well, it's getting late. You should rest," Shadow suggested kindly, recognizing the need for Sonic to recuperate after their eventful day.

"Okay," Sonic replied with a nod, understanding the suggestion to rest after their long day together.

"Should I keep the light on or not?" Shadow inquired, concerned about Sonic's comfort as he prepared to rest.

"Okay, I'll leave it on," Shadow acknowledged, ensuring Sonic felt comfortable before quietly leaving the room, allowing Sonic to settle in for the night.

"Goodnight," Shadow said warmly.

"Goodnight," Sonic replied softly, feeling a sense of gratitude for Shadow's kindness throughout the day.
