Chapter 9

3rd Person POV

Eggman's sinister laughter filled the air as Blaze, Amy, and Knuckles lay convulsing on the cold floor, their bodies overwhelmed by the electric shock. Their limbs twitched uncontrollably, and Eggman stood over them, watching with satisfaction.

"Did you really think you could sneak into my lair without me noticing?" Eggman taunted, his eyes gleaming with triumph.
"I knew you'd come. Now, you get front-row seats to watch your precious merhog suffer."

Knuckles gritted his teeth, struggling to move as the electric shock surged through him. "You won't... get away with this..." he growled weakly.

Eggman smirked. "Oh, but I already have."

He pressed a button, and the screen showed Sonic in his glass cage, barely conscious.
His tail twitched weakly, the chains holding him tight as his body slumped, exhausted and dehydrated. The sight made Blaze, Amy, and Knuckles feel hopeless.

"Look at him. Pathetic, isn't he?" Eggman mocked.
"But don't worry-I'm just getting started. There's so much more I can do with a creature like him."

Blaze forced herself to speak. "You won't... touch him for long..."

"Oh, please," Eggman waved dismissively. "You can't even stand right now. What makes you think you can stop me?"

Amy, still shaking from the shock, looked up at the screen with fear and determination.
"We'll... save him... no matter what..."

Eggman grinned wider. "Adorable, but futile."

He pressed another button, and the chains tightened around Sonic's body. A sharp gasp escaped Sonic's lips as his body jerked in agony.

"Ngh... Shadow..." Sonic whispered weakly.

Eggman glanced at the screen, amused. "Oh, don't worry, Sonic. Shadow will be here soon. I've got a special surprise waiting for him."

Shadow's POV

The cold halls of Eggman's lair stretched before me, but I couldn't waste a second. My body throbbed from the earlier battle, but it didn't matter. I couldn't get the image of Sonic-chained, weak, and vulnerable-out of my head.

I cursed under my breath, heart pounding. "We need to find him, Rouge," I growled. "He's running out of time."

Rouge nodded, serious. "We'll find him. We just need to stay focused."

As we approached a large, reinforced door, Rouge stopped me. "This could be it. Are you ready?"

My blood boiled. "I'm more than ready."

With a swift kick, I slammed the door open, scanning the room for Sonic. But instead, I saw something worse.

Eggman stood there, smug, while Amy, Blaze, and Knuckles lay on the floor, incapacitated. And on the screen behind him-Sonic. Trapped in that glass cage, his body limp and pale, chains wrapped cruelly around him. He looked barely alive.

"Sonic..." I whispered, my heart aching.

Eggman's grin grew wider. "Ah, Shadow! Just in time! Your friend is in a delicate situation. One wrong move, and... well, you can imagine."

My fists clenched with rage. "You'll pay for this, Eggman," I growled.

Eggman laughed. "Oh, Shadow, you'll regret coming here."

Rouge stepped beside me. "What's your game, Eggman?"

Eggman smirked. "I have something you want. You have something I want. Let's see who wins."

I didn't give him a chance to say more. I lunged forward, but Eggman was ready. With a press of a button, an energy barrier shot up between us, forcing me to stop.

Eggman's laughter echoed. "Not so fast, Shadow. If you want to reach Sonic, you'll have to play by my rules."

"Shadow, wait!" Rouge warned, grabbing my arm. "We need a plan."

But I was beyond reason. Sonic was dying in front of me. I wasn't waiting any longer.

"I'm getting Sonic now," I growled, filled with determination.
