The next morning, Sonic was awakened by the sound of someone opening the door. It was Shadow, holding a kit bag in one hand.

"Hi, Shadow," Sonic greeted cheerfully, waving his tail.

"Good morning, Sonic," Shadow replied as he began unpacking the kit.

"What are you doing?" the merhog asked, his eyes wide with curiosity.

"It's time to put new bandages on your tail," Shadow responded gently, his voice calm and reassuring.

"Oh," he replied softly, a mix of relief and nervousness evident in his tone.

Shadow knelt down beside him, carefully unwrapping the old bandages, his touch gentle and precise. "Don't worry," he said with a small, comforting smile. "You're going to feel better in no time."

"Okay," the merhog said, his voice barely above a whisper.

Shadow began removing the old bandages carefully, his hands steady and gentle. As he worked, Sonic watched intently, his focus entirely on Shadow's meticulous movements. He was so absorbed that he didn't realize he was leaning closer and closer.

When Shadow lifted his head, their faces were suddenly inches apart. For a moment, time seemed to stand still as their eyes locked, an unspoken understanding passing between them.

A small blush appeared on the merhog's cheeks, and he quickly looked away, embarrassed.
"S-Sorry," he stammered, his voice barely audible.

Shadow found it cute and chuckled softly. "It's okay," he responded,with a small smile and his tone warm and reassuring.

As Shadow meticulously finished wrapping the fresh bandages around Sonic's tail, he noticed Sonic's gaze shift towards his legs, a flicker of concern in his eyes.

"Is there any problem?" Shadow asked

No, it's just... I've never thought about what it's like to live with legs," the merhog said, his voice filled with curiosity.
"Oh," Shadow replied softly.

"I.. wish I could walk like you... it's just... I want to do new things...I've seen everything the ocean has to offer," Sonic said.
Shadow looked at Sonic, understanding the yearning in his eyes.
"I get it," he said quietly. "The world above has its own wonders. Walking on land, feeling the earth beneath your feet... it's different."

Sonic sighed, his blue eyes reflecting the light. "I just want to experience it all, you know? To run, to explore beyond the waves."

Shadow crouched down, placing a reassuring hand on Sonic's shoulder. "Who knows? Maybe one day, you'll find a way to make it happen."

Shadow stood up, glancing out at the horizon. "For now, let's focus on getting you healed."

Sonic gave a small, hopeful smile. "Thanks, Shadow, that means a lot.."
