Jurassic World : The Forgotten Ones

Part 6 : Epiphany

The Three Musketeers sat on the foggy and grassy hills near the lake they ended up at after exiting the tunnel system.

"Do you think your dad knows we're here?" Jane said to Vikram while picking on flower petals while lying down fully on the soft misted grass.

"I don't know. What I do know.... is we'll be out soon. Thank god for the geothermal power plant. Emergency power is needed on islands like this." Said Vikram.

"Wait.... Geothermal Power?" Said Jane getting up quickly off the grass, sitting up straight.

"Yeah?"

"Okay umm... we're on an island that was supposed to become a park. If there was supposed to be a visitors faction with all amenities a visitor would require... this means there has to be communication there, right?" Asked Jane.

"Wait... we can power up the telephone booths back in the visitors faction if we turn on the geothermal power station powering up the east half of the island. THIS IS PERFECT! We've been running around so much I've barely had the time to think about this." Exclaimed Vikram.

"Okay so... it will take us approximately 3 hours to reach the geothermal station on the north west part of the island because there's so many rivers and hills between us. If we start now, we can get there by sunset." Suggested Jane looking at her watch

"Wait! We can't go there during sunset." pointed out Zach.

"Why?" Inquisitively said Vikram.

"I've been reading the manual on these dinosaurs hunting patterns and there's a group of Velociraptors that have a nesting site exactly where your watch says it is. They meet back at the nest by sunset and go to hunt and gather materials during the day." said Zach.

"What do we do now?" Said Vikram.

Just as Jane was about to say something a bomb was thrown behind them by a flight coming towards them. A jet with mantahcorp written on the side. But they weren't running cuz they were focused on the jet coming towards them. Just behind the plane, hundreds of pteranodons came out from the thick fog and clouds behind swarming the jet and blocking all the windows. As the jet moved closer to the group, it lost its control and crashed into flames in the lake nearby.

The three of them hid behind a giant Boulder.
"I didn't know there were so many pteranodons on this island.." said Vikram
"DIDNT they say they could reproduce without actually mating? I wouldn't be too surprised" said Zach.

Katrina went to the Beverly Centre Mall to pick up a few essential items. She saw people closing the shutters of a few of the shops inside. She walked past them staring at the workers pulling the shutters down. "What's going on" she thought. No one was at the mall. The whole place felt like an empty ghost building with a few 5-6 people around her because no one dared to step outside during a time like this but her items were both medical and urgent.

The fact was that people were allowed to go outside and do normal things like work, errands and trips. Whenever the city siren started ringing, everyone could just run into the nearest safety bunker and lock themselves inside till the DPG takes the animals away. One time in the walk of fame, there was a swarm of raptors that tore peoples flesh off their bone and broke into restaurants and caused havoc. Another time, a T-Rex broke out in San Francisco's Golden Gate. Even after installing all these safety measures and equipment, people still had a phobia of going out unless it was truly important.

She answered her phone that kept ringing constantly. It was varun.

"Rina, you need to get out of the mall. Now." He said in a hurry.
"Wait wha-"

The city sirens started ringing. A good 10 seconds after the sirens started going off, everyone in the mall started running away to the emergency exit and safety bunkers.
She looked at the ceiling which was a sunroof. A gargantuan pterosaur flew above the mall.

"What in lord's name" she mumbled to herself.
As she saw it fly across the sunroof, she started running towards the safety bunker on the same floor. As she ran faster towards the bunker, she held her hand out towards the people at the bunker door. From the fear of the animal, they shut the door and locked it from inside before she could get in. She banged on the door and screamed. As she kept screaming, the mall's lights shut off. The only thing she could hear was her own breath echoing through the empty halls for a good 2 minutes. Just as she started to breathe and calm herself down, the sunroof of the mall collapsed and the behemoth of a pterosaur crashed in. As it got itself up from all the glass, she hit under the bench behind a thick pillar that covered most of her body up. The creature screeched louder than anyone could comprehend. The echoes and the noise made Katrina's ears bleed. It was searching for something inside. A man who was hiding behind another pillar on the other side lost control and tried to run away. The animal saw the man and ran up to him crunching his bones when it bit into him from the side with its ginormous beak. It threw the corpse on the ground and started eating it. Under the bench, she tried not to scream, cry or even breathe a tad bit louder than how she was at that moment. The creature was coming towards the pillar making rounds. She quickly got up on the opposite side of the pterosaur, keeping her back to the pillar and slowly moving around it so it couldn't see her.

The pterosaur which was visibly, a Quetzalcoatlus, poked its beak beside Katrina and the pillar looking forward at the end of the room. It saw a dog that had snuck into the mall. It sprinted from beside her towards the end of the room where it chomped on the dog with its beak, threw it down on the floor, stabbed it with its beak and started ingesting it. Absolutely mortified, she runs away from the creature and leaves the building using the emergency staircase to the basement. She comes across a bunch of Compys tearing apart a persons's body but runs away ignoring it as much as she possibly could. Crying and cursing her way out she saw her car in the front yard. She entered the car and started turning the keys. The quetzalcoatlus shortly after her entering, swung open and broke the industrial entry doors into the building and slowly walked out screeching at the sky.

"FUCKING WORKK" she screamed as the car started working and she sped as fast as possible away from the mall. Breathing heavily and having a near panic attack, she drove her way back to the headquarters. She left the car as she reached the campus and ran straight towards Varun who came out of the building when he heard she arrived. They both hugged as soon as they saw each other.

"Oh my god, never leave like that" he said as they both cried in relief hugging each other as tight as possible. He later on, led her back inside the quarters. The guards locked the front gate, powered the electric fences and secured the campus.

Sitting on the couch in the living room in some comfortable clothes and a cup of coffee
"Here's some lunch I made when you were gone..." he hands her a plate of chicken tikka masala, fried rice and fried potato fritters.

"Indian... you don't eat Indian food often." She said

"I missed the flavour of home. So I made some for you too." He said as he held her hand.

She looked at the plate for a good minute and put it in the coffee table.

"What happened?"
"I don't have the appetite right now." She said "you kind of can't after you saw someone getting torn apart muscle by muscle by a small reptile." She said looking down.
"Oh... alright. I'll keep it in the fridge. You can have it whenever you want" he took the plate and left it in the refrigerator down the hall where the kitchen was.

"You need rest?" he asked when he came back and sat beside her.
"I just wanna sleep, okay?" She said as she kissed him and left the room.

The family hadn't been closely attacked by a dinosaur like this since Vikram's mom was killed by the velociraptors a decade ago. Varun felt the survival instinct kick in and decided to reach out to Vikram and get him back to the headquarters before it was too late.
