Note: I SUCK AT WRITING ANGST I AM SO SORRY.
Zuka stood amidst the raucous crowd, his one remaining hand gripping the railing tightly. The arena was bathed in flickering light and smoke, the air thick with anticipation and the smell of ozone from Rocket's pyrokinetic displays. Zuka's expression was tense, a mixture of worry and disapproval etched on his weathered face. He had never liked these Phights, never liked seeing Rocket risking his life for the thrill of battle.
As the Phight escalated, Rocket faced off against a formidable opponent, a towering figure wreathed in shadows and steel. The arena echoed with cheers and jeers from the other spectating phighters, but Zuka's attention was solely on Rocket. He watched as Rocket danced around his opponent, flames licking the air around them. For a moment, it seemed like Rocket had the upper hand, his movements fluid and precise.
Then it happened.
A miscalculation, a split-second hesitation. The opponent struck with unexpected speed, landing a devastating blow. Rocket staggered back, his prosthetic leg buckling under him. Zuka's heart clenched as he saw Rocket falter, saw the realization dawn in Rocket's eyes that this fight might not end in his favor.
Time slowed for Zuka as he witnessed Rocket's final moments. He saw Rocket's defiance turn to desperation, saw him fight with everything he had left. But it wasn't enough. Another strike, and Rocket fell to the ground, unmoving.
Zuka heard nothing but the rushing of blood in his ears. He pushed through the stunned spectators, ignoring their curious glances and shouts. He reached Rocket's side, his one hand trembling as he knelt beside him. Rocket lay there, still and silent, his wings-like horns now a cruel reminder of the life that had once burned so brightly.
Tears welled up in Zuka's eyes, something he hadn't allowed himself in years. He whispered Rocket's name, his voice cracking with sorrow. The arena faded away, leaving only him and Rocket, alone in their grief.
"I told you, Rocket!" Zuka murmured, his voice barely audible amidst the echoes of the arena. "I told you this life would lead to nothing but pain!" He yelled out, the tears now flowing, and he did nothing to stop it. Not that he could, really.
But Rocket didn't respond, his eyes closed, his face peaceful in a way Zuka hadn't seen in years. Zuka bowed his head, his shoulders shaking with silent sobs. He had lost so much in his life, and now, he had lost Rocket too.
In that moment, amidst the chaos and the sorrow, Zuka realized just how deeply he loved Rocket, despite everything. And now, all he could do was mourn the son he had never expected to have, the son he had failed to protect.
