SHIV

It was dark outside when I went back to our room.

Avantika was sitting out on the balcony, facing the sky and didn't notice me as I neared her.

As I was about to call out her name, I looked at her and found that she was in deep sleep already.

I kneeled in front of her and looked at her sleeping figure.

I don't know why, but I wanted to tease her a little bit before bed.

I have a feeling, it'll help me sleep.

She looks so calm when she sleeps. Total opposite to her usual angry self.

She is always on edge during the day. Especially when she's around me.

She looks so cute when her cheeks go red and she lowers her eyes when she is shy.

Her milky skin goes red when I step closer to her, and her fearless brown eyes become meek.

All the reactions that she gives, she tries not to, but I am sure to catch them anyway, are so interesting that I can't help but want to bring out more of them.

Her eyes go big when she is shocked and even when she is angry. She bites her lips when she is thinking about something and knits her brows when she doesn't understand.

All of them, so faint that you'd think I am hallucinating.

And her food does taste like her. Like red chillies.

You know you shouldn't have them, that they'll hurt you but yet you can't help but taste them.

I know better than that.

I hate her and I have to stay miles away from her.

I have to know who she is. And what purpose she has.

I don't want to but now that I have gotten them already, I might as well.

I mean, they are of no use to me anyway. And it's better this way, when she is asleep.

I take out the diamond anklets from my pocket. They shine bright in the moonlight.

They have two small bells on each of them, so they wouldn't be as noisy as her usual ones.

I noticed that she gets annoyed and tries to be as quiet as she can when she moves.

I don't care if they annoy her or anything. But their clink-clink was really starting to get on my nerves. That's for sure.

Now, at least, I'll have some peace of mind.

I carefully take her foot in my hand, hold it still on my knee, and secure one of the anklets on her ankle.

Same with the other one.

They look good on her. She is still not up; she must be tired from all the work.

I looked at her face for another second and then slowly picked her up in my arms.

She can't be sleeping out in the wind and on that chair.

Don't get me wrong, she can catch a cold or even break her neck for all I care, but that wouldn't look good as the crown princess.

And everyone would think, I don't take good care of her.

I laid her down on the bed and after taking the last look, covered her with a quilt.

YAMIRA

I got up the next morning with an excruciating pain in my body.

I was so tired that I slept like a baby. I don't even remember when I dozed off.

It was still quite early when I looked out the window.

I rolled to my other side and closed my eyes just to open them again. And to my surprise, I met a pair of beautiful golden eyes.

My drowsiness from the sleep ran away faster than the wind, and I was fully awake.

"W-why are you here?" I asked, my voice coming out as a mere whisper.

"You keep asking me the same question; you are expected to receive the same answer....This is my bed, my room and my wife. Where else did you expect me to be?" He said, also in a whisper.

His already husky voice became even more gritty.

I felt like I melted with his words.

Wait a minute.

"I...I don't remember being in bed when I slept, wasn't I....?" I looked at the balcony.

"Were you now?"

I remember sitting in the chair and NOT on the bed last night.

"How did I...?" I asked him.

"I don't know. You were right here when I came into the room."

He is lying. I know he is.

"And my clothes.....I wasn't wearing this when I slept. I wanted to change but...I dozed off I guess. Did you?" I squeezed my eyes at him.

I know I am lying but he doesn't have the sole right to play games with me.

He raised his eyebrows, "Do not look at me like that. I did pick you up and bring you to bed but I DID NOT change your clothes."

The tables have changed. Now, I raised my brow at him as he realised his slip-up.

"Why-huh!",

Before I could ask him any questions, he held my wrists on top of my head and got on top of me, being careful not to touch me anywhere else.

"Don't play games with me, princess. You'll be burning yourself and you better realise this sooner than later."

His honey eyes were burning into mine.

It wasn't anger in them; he wasn't shouting, but, rather, he seemed to be trying to be careful.

It was a warning....for himself or me, I don't know.

My curiosity turned into anger when I registered his words.

"I am playing games with you!? What do you have to say for yourself? You were the one who told me that there cannot be anything between us, that you do not wish for there to be. You told me to stay away from you! And yet you keep doing the exact opposite of yourself."

I am out of breath already.

"Oh really? What have I done? Care to tell?" he asked.

I huffed at his ignorance towards his actions.

"What was all that yesterday? At lunch?"

He rolled his eyes, "Please, that was for the family, you know that."

It was more than needed.

"Then at the bath in the morning? No one was seeing us at that time I am sure."

I knitted my brows.

I have never been this angry. He just brings out new sides of me.

"Right. Now you have nothing to say-"

I wasn't able to complete my sentence as he covered my lips with his.

My heart stopped and my body froze solid.

His soft lips were covering mine.

This man who hates me and whom I hate was kissing me.
