Chapter 9Wei Ying lay in bed at Hanshi Xichen's residence, having been fetched by Lan Qiren earlier that night to spend the night at Zuwa Jun house. It was a tradition for couples to separate the night before their wedding, not to be reunited until the ceremony.
Just my thinking, i don't know the Chinese traditions and all when it comes to wedding's.
Xichen ge was already asleep, leaving the bed for Wei Ying. Lan Qiren had sternly warned him that if he tried to return to Jingshi, he would personally escort him to his room and make him sleep there, a prospect that made Wei Ying's body shudder. To avoid that fate, he reluctantly settled into Xichen ge's bed, his slender frame feeling small and vulnerable.
Although the bed was soft and inviting, Wei Ying couldn't shake off the feeling of discomfort. Without Lan Zhan by his side, even the most luxurious bed felt like hard wood. Since his return to Cloud Recesses, Wei Ying had grown accustomed to sleeping entwined with Lan Zhan, savoring their goodnight kisses and tender moments. Now, alone and bereft of Lan Zhan's embrace, sleep eluded him. He tossed and turned, his eyes wide with longing.
As he recalled Lan Zhan's face, a faint, melancholic smile crossed his lips.
Earlier, they had been sitting together, enjoying a tranquil moment by the tea table, with Wei Ying on Lan Zhan's lap. Lan Zhan had been stroking his hair, showering him with gentle kisses...But their bliss was short-lived, disrupted by Lan Qiren's sudden arrival.
Lan Zhan's grip on Wei Ying's hand tightened as he sensed his uncle's disapproval. Wei Ying's body trembled, fearful of Lan Qiren's displeasure. He whispered reassurances to Lan Zhan, "It's okay, let me go. We'll be together forever tomorrow." Lan Zhan refused to relent, his hold on Wei Ying's hand unyielding. Wei Ying's words, "If you really love me, Lan Zhan, let me go," pierced Lan Zhan's heart. He panicked, his embrace tightening, his heartbeat audible to Wei Ying.
Lan Qiren's patience wore thin, and he forcibly separated the two, pulling Wei Ying away from Lan Zhan's desperate grasp. Wei Ying's head shook, his eyes locked on Lan Zhan's anguished face.
Wei Ying stepped outside, craving fresh air, when a white-robed figure enveloped him, drawing him into the shadows of Hanshi.
His eyes widened in surprise as Lan Zhan's face came into view. "Lan Zhan, what are you doing here? What if your uncle returns to check on me?"
Wei Ying's words trailed off as Lan Zhan's lips claimed his in a hungry kiss. Lan Zhan nibbled and sucked, biting Wei Ying's bottom lip to gain access to his mouth.
As they parted, Wei Ying felt dizzy, his voice barely above a whisper, "Lan Zhaaan..." He melted into Lan Zhan's chest, holding him tight, finding solace in his lover's embrace. And so, they spent the night lost in each other's arms, unable to bear separation.
The wedding day arrive, as the noon sun shone bright, Sizhui and Jingyi attempted to prepare Wei Ying for his evening wedding ceremony.
However, Wei Ying was being stubborn, protesting and squirming like a restless child. Sizhui, patient like his father Wangji, tried to reason with him, while Jingyi, exasperated, frowned and stepped back to admire his Baba handsome appearance.
The new red wedding robe accentuated Wei Ying's beauty, making him look like a newly hatched chick. But, oh, the hair! Wei Ying refused to be adorned like a beautiful maiden, rejecting every ornament Sizhui and Jingyi suggested with cute pouts and whines.
Jingyi had had enough. With a mischievous grin, he gathered a handful of flowers and ribbons and approached Wei Ying, who instinctively covered his head with his slender hands. "Jingyi, I already said no! I won't look like a maiden!" Wei Ying's anxiety and racing heart made him oblivious to everything else.
Jingyi chuckled naughtily, "You already look like a radiant maiden, I'm right to call you Mama! Be a good Mama and let us finish this before Father or Uncle Xichen come to scold us for delaying."
"It seems their efforts are in vain, as Wei Ying doesn't appear to understand or is choosing not to. He scowls at them, then bounces away, looking innocently like a little boy.
Jingyi holds his head, ready to burst into tears from frustration.
Jiang Cheng and Jin Ling join them, but even their combined efforts fail to persuade Wei Ying to wear a flower in his hair. "Uncle Wei, please cooperate," Jin Ling says. "Everyone is gathered in the hall, waiting for your arrival. Zewu-Jun sent us to fetch you." Jiang Cheng frowns and yells, "Wei Wuxian, stop this childish behavior and be mature, for God's sake! It's your wedding day, and that cold Second Jade is already panicking because he hasn't seen his lover." He mocks the last sentence.
Wei Ying retaliates, calling Lan Zhan "cold." Jiang Cheng smirks, "If you don't want me to call him that, stop this nonsense and get ready." Wei Ying refuses to budge, standing there scratching his nose and looking at the four like he's in a trance. The others glare at him, while Sizhui begs with his eyes."
"To their greatest relief, Boashan Sanren appeared out of nowhere, as if she had teleported. When Wei Ying saw his grandmother, he ran to embrace her, and she hugged him, glowering at the others, who all stalled and shrank back. Wei Ying felt relieved to see his grandmother and blinked away his tears. Boashan patted his back, and they parted ways.
"What's going on here?" Boashan asked, her question directed at Wei Ying. Wei Ying pouted, looking down and scratching his head. "Grandma, they wanted to adorn me like a maiden, and...and I refused to look like a woman."
Dramatically, Boashan exclaimed, "Come on, my beautiful grandson is not a maiden!" She took his hand and led him to the dressing mirror, making him sit. Then, she turned to the others and winked, whispering, "It's alright, I've got this." She yelled, "All of you, go out! I'll prepare him and bring him to the hall."
After they left, Boashan outsmarted Wei Ying and prepared him as a glorious groom, adorning his hair with many flowers and ribbons. When she was satisfied with his looks, she grasped his face with both hands, and they locked eyes. "Ah, my grandson is the most beautiful and handsome groom I have ever seen." Tears rolled down her cheeks. Wei Ying wiped her face with his finger, then rested his head on her stomach. She hugged him, holding him for a few seconds before laughing and saying, "Enough, people are waiting for you. Time is running out, and my other grandson is stressing, thinking you've run away and don't want to marry him."
Wei Ying laughed, imagining Lan Zhan's panicked face. "Then we should hurry. I'm much better after seeing you and ready to marry that righteous man for eternity." Boashan kissed his forehead and covered him with a red veil. He took her arm, and they left."
