Chapter 5: Monoma Neito

TUESDAY 4:14 PM

"Alright class, before you go home, this week's assignment is about human civilization before quirks. I'll put you into pairs. The deadline is Thursday" Your homeroom teacher - Mr. Muchina explained. Every 2 weeks, he would give your class an assignment to do.

"Monoma Neito and..."

'Not me not me not me not-'

"[L/N] [Name]"

'Damn it!' you curse in your head. On the outside, you seem calm, on the inside, you feel you can faint at any moment. What's with you getting partnered up with Monoma? 'Oh fuck my life'

'Breath in....breath out'

You stand up from your seats and go to Monoma's table. "Monoma-san" You call out. "I want to talk with you about the assignment. I'm not free tomorrow, so I was wondering if we could do it today"

"Y-yeah, sure. Let's do it at my place" Monoma didn't expect you to start a conversation with him first.

You nod. You want to spend tomorrow training, the faster you finish the assignment, the faster you can start your training.

4:30 PM

"[Name]-san, I have to warn you that my mom can be a bit overwhelming," Monoma says and opens the door.

"Neito welcome back- Huh?" Monoma's mother, Monoma Sayaka, is a beautiful blond and green-eyed woman.

"Greetings, Mrs. Monoma. I'm [L/N] [Name], Monoma-san's classmate. It's nice to meet you" You bow

'How polite!' Sayaka likes you, not only you are well-mannered, but you are cute too.

"Please, just call me Sayaka." She turns to Monoma. "Why didn't you tell me that a cute girl would be coming over?"

"MOM!"

"Ah! You guys must be tired. Neito, hurry and lead her to your room. I'll prepare some snacks and drinks okay?"

"[Name]-san, this way"

"Thank you, Sayaka-san" You follow Monoma to his room.

TIMESKIP: 8 PM

"And sent," Monoma says and drinks his glass of juice. After 3 and a half hours, you guys have finally finished your assignment.

"Ugh, finally" You stretch your arm.

"Neh, Monoma-san. What school are you enrolling in next year?" You ask him out of nowhere

"Well, I want to enroll in UA"

"UA?"

"Yes, I want to be a hero".

You stare at him for a few seconds. "Really? Same! I want to get into UA too! Why don't we train together?" you beam and hold his hands

"S-sure" Monoma blushes, he's never held a girl's hand before.

"That's settled. From now on, we're training buddies" you declare.

"Wait-but, [Name]-san, aren't you quirkless?" Monoma asks you, confused. He doesn't have anything against quirkless people wanting to become a hero. But seeing someone so confident in succeeding, is new. As there has not been a single quirkless hero yet.

"Oh! I'm actually not quirkless" you giggle. 'Acting mode: activated'

He would think you are joking, but the serious look on your face tells him you're not.

"WHAT?!" He was sure, heck the whole school was sure you were quirkless.

"Just because I never used my quirk or talked about it doesn't mean I'm quirkless you know" You cross your arms. "You guys randomly assumed I was" you pout. White lies, but he doesn't have to know. Honestly, you think you deserve an Oscar for your acting.

"I have 2 quirks. I can produce and control blue flames or water. I'll tell you more about it when we have the time. Anyways, what's your quirk Monoma-san?" you curiously lean closer.

He can't believe it, the whole school was tricked? So you weren't quirkless, but have 2 strong quirks at that. He can tell that your quirks are cool and powerful just by a brief description, unlike his.

"I can copy someone's quirk after touching them." He scratches his neck. "It's lame, I know"

"Lame?" you tilt your head. "You call that lame?"

"[Name]-san?"

"Are you stupid? Who's been telling you that? Imagine being able to copy someone's quirk and calling it lame." you scoff and stand up. "You need to rid of that dumb thinking Monoma-san. I'd say you have a cool and strong quirk." hands on your waist as you say.

"Eh?" Monoma doesn't know what to say. This was the first time someone had told him that. Growing up, everyone's been telling him that his quirk does not fit the typical mold of a strong hero, and he couldn't become a hero with a quirk like that.

"I'm sure with the right training, you will be a great hero." you pat his head.

"Let's do our best from now on."

Monoma can feel the tears swelling up in his eyes after hearing your encouraging words. (It's not, he just feels emotional since this is the first time he heard it)

"Mm, [Name]-san, let's do our best" he swipes his tears and looks at you with determination. You give him a faint smile in return.

Ladies and gentlemen(and nonbinary hoes). That, was how your friendship with Monoma bloomed. And as time passes, maybe it'll even turn into something more.

8:10 PM

"Are you sure? I'm sure Neito doesn't mind walking you home"

"I'll be fine Sayaka-san" you reassure her.

"If something happens, call me". Monoma reminds you. Ah, yes, you guys exchanged numbers earlier. Looks like Monoma has the honor to be the first person to have your numbers in your school.

"I'll remember that. Thank you for welcoming me" You bow to show your gratitude. "Monoma-san, let's-"

"Neito, call me Neito" Monoma cuts you off. "Uhhh, Neito-san?"

"Just Neito, no need for honorifics"

"Alright, then Neito, let's hang out sometime. And please call me [Name] only as well."

"Mm" he nods

"Sayaka-san, Neito, good night" You smile and walk off.

Monoma stands at the door, staring at your disappearing figure. He smiles to himself unconsciously. He heads in and closes the door.

"So, when's the wedding"

"MOM!"

Fun facts:
- Sayaka's been listening when you and Monoma are having the 'talk'. She's happy to know that Monoma has a true friend who can help him get past his insecurity.

- Sayaka now considers you "future daughter-in-law"

- Monoma texted you if you want to hang out with him on Friday. You guys also discussed your training schedule and decided to train together every weekend

- You will be meeting another character soon.
