Maryam Chaudhary
*********************I spun the bottle and it landed on Ali. Everyone shouted in excitement as it landed on him.
"Alright Ali, truth or dare?", Asad bhai asked, eagerly waiting for his response. "Truth", Ali replied, with a mischievous smirk, causing us all to wonder what embarrassing question he would be asked. But to our surprise, he said, "I'm gonna be honest, I'm not as daring as you guys".
"Wait, what? So you're telling us you're a chicken?", Farhad teased, causing us all to burst into laughter.
"Nah, just in the mood for any dares today", Ali defended himself with a sheepish grin.
"So, are you serious with Shifa?", Farhad asked, getting straight to the point. We all looked at Ali, curious to hear his answer.
"I have never been so sure before", Ali replied with a huge smile on his face.
"Well, well, look who's finally getting serious about someone", Farhad teased, hi-fived Maria who joined in the teasing.
"Okay, now that the truth has been spilled, let's go have some dinner!", chachi jaan said, entering the living room.
"We'll continue this game after dinner", Ali said as we all got up and made our way to the dining area.
"Wait, does this mean you're gonna be officially off the market?", Haider asked, causing us all to laugh.
"Looks like it", Ali replied with a wink, earning a round of cheers from us all. As we all entered the dining area, I noticed Danish had not spared me a glance since I entered. I walked over and sat beside him at the table, but he was too engrossed in his food to acknowledge me. It seemed like he was intentionally avoiding me.
I served myself some curry and roti, then glanced around the table to see everyone eating and chitchatting. I reached under the table to hold Danish's hand, but he angrily slapped it away.
'He is really mad', I thought, a pout forming on my lips. I find it difficult to believe that he could be this jealous and angry with me for my affection towards a fictional character. His possessiveness has reached an extreme level, but paradoxically, it only intensifies my feelings for him. It's a perplexing situation. Living with him and loving his possessiveness is driving me crazy, I think, for this, I need to see a psychiatrist.
"Maryam bhabhi biryani le", Azaan said as he passed me biryani. I served myself and started eating it without lifting my head.
"Kal university mat jana, meri friends aa rahi hai tumhe dekhne", dadi jaan said making me look at her.
"Kal toh mera exam hai", I said as I twirled the spoon in my hand. "Exams toh hote rehte hai, maine kaha na tum kal nahi jaogi matlab nahi jaogi", dadi jaan said in a firm voice, narrowing her eyes at me.
'Churail budhiya, nahi jaogi matlab nahi jaogi' I mimicked her in my head while rolling my eyes.
"Are you rolling your eyes at me?", budhiya asked, glaring at me.
"Yes", I replied but instantly I keep my hand on my mouth and shake my head as no.
"Badtameez ladki, badon ki izzat karni nahi aati tumhe", she said slamming her hands on the table.
"I do know how to, but for some reason, I don't feel like respecting you", I replied, feeling embarrassed as everyone was stared at me.
"I'm sorry", i said, hanging my head low, as my mouth tends to run a lot.
"Jaisi phupho waisi bhatiji", she said, shaking her head in disgust while looking at me. I raise my head and see chachi jaan signalling me to eat without any further argument. I took a sip of water and gulped it down, while Haider, Ali, Asad bhai, Azaan, Farhad, and Maria struggled to control their laughter by biting their lips, glancing at me and dadi jaan.
