"Lady Danbury..."
Lady Danbury turned at the sound of her name being called. She looked away from the window to see Lady Florence and Violet.
"Whatever are you doing in here?" Violet asked as Lady Danbury moved away from the window.
"I assure you, it is for good reason... that I am in here and not out there." Lady Danbury said, vaguely, looking between the two women.
"It is unlike you to be off somewhere, hiding..." Violet said, glancing at the window.
"Well... we all require a modicum of self-reflection from time to time." Lady Danbury said, looking at Lady Florence, who still seemed unpleased with Lady Danbury and her "lies." "Do you not think?" Lady Danbury asked as Lady Florence looked at her.
"Mmm..." Lady Florence hummed, turning her eyes back to the window.
"Lady Tremblay..." Lady Danbury sighed, making the two women look at her. "I must apologize for not sharing certain information with you. That business between the Sharmas and the Sheffields, well... it was not my place, but I certainly did not wish it to be revealed as it was at that dinner." She apologized to Lady Florence as Violet covered her mouth, not knowing what happened at the dinner, other than mentions of the Sheffields leaving unhappy. "This entire scheme seems to have got out of hand." She added with a sigh.
"Indeed, it has..." Lady Florence sighed, looking back at the window. "The Duchess of Hastings... Your daughter, Daphne..." Lady Florence said, looking at Violet. "The duchess has, uh... well, she has finally confirmed something I have been fearing for quite some time." She sighed.
"Yes... She did inform me of that, too..." Violet nodded, looking down.
"Ah."
"Something I believe you too have observed, no doubt." Lady Florence added, when Lady Danbury sighed again.
Lady Danbury sighed, taking a few steps toward the window, again. "Her Majesty wishes me to repair today's situation. And for what may very well be the first time in my life... I do not know what to do." She confessed before chuckling nervously.
After a few minutes, the three women ended up laughing hysterically. This has been a very eventful season for all three of them.
"Look! Peacocks!" Violet laughed, pointing toward the window.
"Dreadful creatures!" Lady Danbury added with a big laugh.
"They attack, unprovoked." Lady Florence laughed.
"As if the day could get any more unfortunate." Lady Danbury continued to laugh, uncontrollable.
"You could always tell her that there is nothing to be done." Violet continued laughing, too.
"The Queen of England? I would rather go out there and offer my hand to one of those birds. It would be less painful." Lady Danbury added, while they continued to laugh.
But they stopped after a few more minutes. They finally caught their breaths and took a deep breath.
"Do you think the bride will return to that altar?" Violet asked, looking at the two women.
"There is only one person who can answer that question." Lady Danbury sighed as Lady Florence and Violet nodded.
