Chapter 6

Mercury awoke from a light slumber and stretched his limbs before preparing for the day ahead. Mercury realized that Jupiter wasn't in the den with him. Mercury shurgged, figuring that Jupiter must have already left for his morning hunt. Mercury continued with his own morning routine, knowing that Jupiter would catch up with him later. As he stepped outside, Mercury took in a deep breath of the crisp morning air, feeling energized and ready to face whatever challenges the day may bring. Mercury was getting more used to his cat body and a bit braver to fight for himself when Jupiter wasn't around to defend him.

Mercury managed to find a patty that was dropped on the ground and went over to take it, but Mercury scented something foul and hissed, his back arched as a rat came out from a crack in the wall and hissed at Mercury trying to claim the patty for itself. Mercury, not backing down, unsheathed his claws and swatted at the rat inches from its head. The rat hissed and tried to bite Mercury, but Mercury pulled away before the rat could deliver a bite. Mercury then saw an opening and grabbed the rat by its neck, violently shaking the rat before tossing it aside. Mercury quickly grabbed the patty and retreated back to the den.

Mercury quickly devoured his hard-earned meal. Mercury heard pawsteps and went defensive before seeing Jupiter padding towards him. "Oh, thank God, it's just you," Mercury said with relief. Jupiter approached and nuzzled Mercury, sensing his tense energy. "You okay?" Jupiter asked, concern evident in his eyes. Mercury nodded, swallowing the last bit of the patty. "I just had a little scuffle with a rat trying to steal my food," he explained. Jupiter chuckled. "Well, it looks like you handled it just fine." Mercury smiled, grateful for Jupiter's presence and support.

Jupiter's face became serious, and this made Mercury worried: 'What happened this time? Did Scrouge find out about something? " Mercury thought that knowing that Jupiter had a serious look meant something was wrong. " You aren't wrong with that assumption. " Jupiter responded as if he could read Mercury's mind before continuing. "Scourge wants to see you. " Mercury's heart sank at the mention of Scourge wanting to see him. He knew that it couldn't be good news if the notorious leader was requesting his presence. "Don't worry, I'll come with you," Jupiter said, his voice firm and determined. Mercury nodded gratefully, feeling a sense of relief knowing that he had Jupiter by his side. Together, they walked towards Scourge's territory, unsure of what awaited him.

Mercury and Jupiter headed inside the BloodClan camp as Snake and Ice gave them glares. Mercury stopped seeing Scourge up on his spot in the dump can. Mercury looked at Jupiter and saw that he wasn't worried. Should he be worried? Mercury then flinched, hearing Scourges icy tone: "Mercury, I heard things about you from Jupiter and some of my cats. " Mercury gulped nervously, unsure of what Scourge had heard. The cats leaned closer to hear what their leader was about to say to Mercury. "You have proven to my cats that you are trustworthy and a strong cat, despite your pityful size. " Scourge hissed, and Mercury had to hold back a laugh, thinking it was ironic that Scourge was calling him a pityful size when he was no bigger than him. "We welcome you as a full member of my clan." Scourge said, cats around the camp started to catterwall in excitement, some hesitant, and others like Ice and Snake just glared at Mercury.

As they were walking back to their den, Jupiter showed a rare smile. " I can tell you're going to be a great addition to our group." Jupiter purred, "I am proud of you—your training " Jupiter said, covering up that he was growing fond of Mercury before paddling ahead. Mercury wasn't happy; in fact, he was terrified. 'I can't stay as a cat forever!' Mercury thought painfully. Mercury quickly padded up next to Jupiter before debating whether he should tell Jupiter, but he figured it was better to tell him or he would find out eventually. "Jupiter? " Mercury asked, The tom turned to look at Mercury. "Yes? " Mercury took a deep breath. "Im no- " A cat screaming in the distance and loudly barking interrupted Mercury as it was starting.

Jupiter heard the screaming as well. "Come on," Jupiter ordered, and he rushed to the sound of barking. Mercury relucently followed after Jupiter, as they quickly followed the screaming. As they neared closer to the screaming, Mercury could hear the sound of claws scratching against pavement. They quickly aroused at the scene as a fiery orange brindle tabby with yellow eyes like flames. "Hey! Watch it! " The tom hissed at the dogs, trying to escape from them by climbing up a ladder, but he was having trouble. Mercury stopped and gasped, realizing the voice of the cat was Venus!

Jupiter wasted no time before snarling at the dog, which turned out to be a small, yappy dog just trying to play with Venus. Jupiter appeared perplexed that Venus reacted negatively to a small dog that is easily scared by a single slash. Mercury quickly charged at the small dog, slashing his claws at the air inches from the small dog's face. Jupiter joined in by snarling and hissing at the dog, and before long, the dog broke under preser and ran away, yipping with its stubby tail between its legs. Mercury looked over at Venus, who had a look of embarrassment across his face. Jupiter huffed, then turned to Venus and said, "It's safe to come down now." Venus glared daggers at Jupiter before reluctantly climbing down.

Mercury stood behind Jupiter with a nervous or worried look on his face. Jupiter sighed, " You're lucky it was only a small dog; if it were bigger, it would have ripped you apart. Come on, kit, let's leave " Jupiter grumbled before turning away. "Wait! " Mercury yelled, shocking Jupiter and more so Venus. " We can leave V—I mean, him here! " Mercury pleaded with Jupiter to let Venus come with them. Jupiter frowned. "Mercury, listen, I don't want another stranger in my den; just leave him." Venus was cut in " Mercury?! " Mercury flinched at Venus tone as the tom glared down at him, "Is this where you have been the whole time? Playing—I don't know what with—whatever that thing is! " Venus hissed, glaring at Jupiter.

Jupiter growled " Who are you calling a thing?" Jupiter walked over and toward Venus because of his sheer size, but Mercury knew Venus would never back down from a fight. "Yeah, that's what I called you, Idiot! " Venus snarled. Mercury quickly put himself between the two and said, "Stop fighting! This cat is with me! " Mercury said that although he did want to see Jupiter beat up Venus, he knew he would kill him like any BloodClan cat would. Venus looked confused. "Cat??" Mercury gave a glare, telling Venus to shut up and follow my lead. "Right, I am with Mercury or whatever " Venus said, not trying too hard to sound convincing.

Jupiter raised a brow, then sighed, "Fine, but he can only stay with us for tonight. Scourge wouldn't like it if more cats showed up on his terrace unaware."" Jupiter snarled before heading back to their den. Mercury was left alone with Venus. "What are you doing here, Pipsqieak?" Venus hissed inches from Mercury's face. Mercury flinched, "I don't know! I just got sucked into a blackhole, and now I am a cat on earth! " Mercury said he was trying to explain his side. Venus looked confused. "What... were on earth?! That Dingus! " Venus hissed. Mercury backed away from Venus instence stare. "I am not sure how you got here, but there must be a reason, but if you want to survive, Jupiter, not our Jupiter, He knows this place like the back of his paw; if anyone can live in this harsh world, it would be him. " Mercury said Venus just glared at him. "Or you can stay here and get eaten by dogs again, fine by me " Mercury said slyly as he walked away with his tail held high and a smirk on his face. "W- Mercury! Get back, UGH Fine! " Venus hissed, rushing over to walk behind Mercury.
