Dezi's P.O.V.

"Someone's in here!" I shout as I hear yet another set of bangs coming from outside the bathroom door.

Ugh, think Dezi, think! What are you going to say to him? You can't break his heart, he's literally all you have.

"Would you PLEASE give me a minute!" I squeal again as the weight on my shoulders intensifies.

"D-Dezi? It's Luke. I was only trying to see if you were okay, I-"

Luke abruptly stops his stammering as I pull him into the bathroom with me and shut the door. I slink down to the floor and lean my head back against the wall. Luke does the same except he sits criss cross applesauce while I have to put my legs straight out in front of me because I'm wearing a very short dress.

The music from the house party we're currently guests of thumps the walls and floors. I turn my head to the left to see Luke with his head in his hands.

"Hey, don't be like that. Nothing's wrong here Luke. You said what you felt and I've always respected your ability to do that. I just don't feel like what we have as best friends could ever blossom into anything more. I love you, I do and it would be really low down for me to drag you into my mess of a life." I told Luke, gently.

"But what if I said I wanted to be dragged into it?" Luke whispered, barely audible.

"It would make me feel like even more of an asshole than I already do." I said to him pouting.

I reached out, intertwining my fingers into his. He giggled as he looked up at me, realizing that my mind wasn't going to change and accepting defeat.

Luke and I had been best friends since the 3rd grade. That was the year that my parents split up. Luke was there for me when no one else really knew what to do.

As we got older, we only got closer. Surviving middle school and high school is a very tough accomplishment, but we got through it together, as we did everything in our lives.

It was the summer after our senior year, and everyone was living it up before we all had to part ways for College. Luke out of nowhere decides to drop this bomb on me while we're standing alone getting some drinks that he's been in love with me since we started high school.

As good as I am with awkward situations, I ran to the bathroom and locked the door. And here we are now. Sitting on the bathroom floor, looking into each other's eyes and reminiscing, almost telepathically, about all of our wonderful times.

"Do you remember that time, the summer after 6th grade when we made up our special "oath" up in that nasty old treehouse in your dad's backyard?" I finally broke the silence.

"Oh my gosh. How could I forget, Dez?

Best friends, best friends

Forever with you
