Silence

Words are so hopelessly quiet,

Empty vessels that cause our lungs to ache,

Carving out space from our consciousness,

Mixing and marring the air until it's tawny.

My dear friend,

Speak to me in silence.

Murmur messages in softened eyes and lingering gazes,

Crinkling your eyes fondly when laughter rings in our hearts.

Tease me with biting glares and knowing looks,

Shooting me sharp quips with snappy glances.

Declare your affection in your darkening irises,

Rich sentiment causing our breaths to each in rhythmic harmony,

Seeping into our bones, meaning solidifying into marrow.

Etch your words on my soul with the weight of your silence.

Carve your feelings into me in the space of the quiet,

And I'll do the same with careful hands and a fine blade.

That will leave us with far more

Than words could ever give us.
