Darling

Darling. Oh, darling. Or should I call you dear?

I don't know if making you my darling is too daring.

Friendship and Love have long since gotten married,

And the concepts have become enmeshed and entangled

Until my heart is left in a mess of knots

That I will never dare to undo.

In Friendship, I see traits of Love.

In Love, I see traits of Friendship.

Both are so powerful and miraculous that they are inseparable.

The souls of both are sewn into one,

A wonderful tapestry that captures a beautiful connection,

A web of embroidery and shimmering thread.

I want to commission you to sew a spectacular world together,

But to make something together is hard work.

Love and Friendship can be fruitful, but also frightening.

Friendship cried in Love's arms in terror before the wedding

Because change and labels can lead to fall or flight.

I don't want to ask you to risk placing a label

Because I don't have the bravery in my own bones.

But I still wish to tentatively sew some sweet words,

Tender affections and touches turning into something deeper,

Sharing the spirit of Love and Friendship alike.

Maybe, somehow, with a miracle, we can get married one day

Without ever knowing what marriage means.
