Raphaleo Wang watched Sean Xiao bounce off towards his next class, a whirlwind of energy and apologies. Yibo shook his head, a bemused smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. The encounter had been unexpected but somehow refreshing. He glanced at his now-stained leather jacket and shrugged. At least the day hadn't been downright dull.
Raphaleo's life was anything but ordinary. By day, he was a freshman in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, acing his classes and maintaining a perfect facade of the dutiful youngest son. By night, he transformed into a street racer and underground gang member, rebelling against his family's high expectations.
Walking across campus, he couldn't help but think about his brothers. His eldest brother, Dean Wang, was a junior in the Department of Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Strategy. Dean was the golden child, always at the top of his class, constantly coming up with groundbreaking business ideas that left everyone in awe.
Then there was Kevin Wang, his second brother, a sophomore in the Department of International Relations. Kevin was the diplomat of the family, smooth-talking his way through any situation and charming professors and peers alike. His fluency in multiple languages and his keen understanding of global politics made him the poster child for success.
And then there was Raphaleo. The black sheep. The rebel. The one who found solace not in books and lectures but in the roar of engines and the thrill of the race. He could almost hear his parents' voices, forever comparing him to his overachieving brothers.
Lost in thought, Raphaleo reached the garage where he kept his motorcycle. He affectionately patted the sleek black machine. This was his escape, his freedom. He donned his helmet, revved the engine, and sped off into the night.
As the city lights blurred past him, Raphaleo felt the familiar adrenaline rush. He had a street race scheduled tonight, a chance to blow off some steam and assert his independence. Arriving at the usual spot, he was greeted by a motley crew of racers and gang members.
"Raff! About time you showed up!" called out Davis Xia, a fellow racer and member of the underground gang.
Raphaleo smirked and dismounted his bike. "Ready to lose again, Dave?"
"In your dreams, Wang. Let's see if that engineering brain of yours can keep up with my speed," Davis shot back with a grin.
The night air was filled with the sound of revving engines and the smell of burning rubber. Raphaleo's heart pounded as he took his position at the starting line. This was where he belonged, where he felt alive.
"Ready... set... go!"
The racers took off, tearing through the streets like a pack of wild animals. Yibo weaved in and out of traffic easily, his mind clear and focused. For a few minutes, nothing else mattered—not his family, not his brothers, not the pressures of school—just the race.
But as he rounded a corner, something unexpected happened. A police siren wailed in the distance, growing louder by the second. Panic surged through the racers as they scattered in different directions. Raphaleo cursed under his breath and accelerated, trying to lose the cops.He darted down an alleyway, his bike skidding slightly on the wet pavement. The sirens were still behind him, persistent and unforgiving. He needed to find a way out, fast.
His mind raced as he navigated the labyrinth of alleyways, searching for an escape route. Suddenly, he saw it—a narrow gap between two buildings, just wide enough for his bike. Without hesitation, he veered towards it and squeezed through, barely reaching the other side.
The sirens grew fainter, and Raphaleo breathed a sigh of relief. He slowed down, the adrenaline still pumping through his veins. Glancing around, he realized he was in an unfamiliar part of town. He needed to get back to campus without drawing any more attention.
As he rode through the dimly lit streets, his thoughts wandered back to a boy named Sean Xiao. The guy was like a breath of fresh air, utterly oblivious to the darker side of Raphaleo's life. For a moment, Raphaleo wondered what it would be like to live a simpler life, free from the constant pressure and danger.
But that was a luxury he couldn't afford. Not yet, anyway.
Returning to campus, Raphaleo parked his bike and returned to his dorm. He slipped in quietly, careful not to wake his roommate. As he lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, he couldn't shake the feeling that his double life was becoming more complicated to manage. The encounter with Sean had been a stark reminder of how different his two worlds were.
And then, as sleep began to overtake him, a thought struck Raphaleo like a lightning bolt. What if Sean found out about his secret life? What if their paths crossed again, but this time in the shadowy underworld Raphaleo tried so hard to keep hidden?
The possibilities were both terrifying and thrilling.
As Raphaleo drifted off to sleep, he couldn't help but wonder what fate had in store for him. The chaos of his life seemed to pull him in two different directions, and he had no idea which path he would ultimately take.
But one thing was sure—this was just the beginning of a series of unexpected events that would change everything.
