Chapter 6

¤ Veronica ¤

The day passed with Veronica asleep and sitting down in her room all alone. The prince had left even before she had even taken her first step into her new room. Dinner with the royal family didn't happen as the king and queen were not done with their emergency meeting.

Morning quickly arrived and she met her new servant, Selin. Probably by her late twenties, with blonde hair and blue eyes. Dressed in black clothes, a shirt, pants and the hair set up in a bun. The first thing Selin did was bottle up a bath for Veronica and then left her alone.

Veronica stepped into the tub and slowly sat down. ' Oh how nice. It was a long time ago since the last time I could relax.' she thought and closed her eyes with a small smile. After the bath, Selin helped Veronica get ready for breakfast with the royal family.

The dress for the day is violet blue with small white beads on the whole dress, to jewelry she got large white beads as earrings and then another pair of high heels. ' Another day with these monsters to heels.' The hair Selin lets it down and fixes large curls that make her black hair get volume.

Once Veronica was done, there was a knock on the door and Selin went to open it. When Veronica turns around, she sees that it is the prince who is looking at her blankly. She had gotten used to seeing his teasing look that the cold gaze gave her shivers.

'' We're already late for breakfast.'', is all he says and walks out of the room. She herself was annoyed ever since she put on her heels and his attitude didn't make it any better. Instead of saying anything back, Veronica kept quiet and walked out of her room.

The king's grandfather had been a lord from the Thena kingdom before he conquered this kingdom and named it Northa, from what she had heard. The queen herself is from the Thena kingdom, sister of the late king who died more than ten years ago. They walked past guards bowing before them and to return to standing as a stone.

The prince was silent throughout the way to the royal couple's room. Veronica wanted to say that the rules he had given her to follow, he himself should follow. 

They are supposed to pretend to be cousins, family. Not that one should be cold and quiet and not say anything at all. But instead of saying just that, she takes a deep breath and lets it be until they're alone in a room where there are no servants or guards.

Once they got to the royal couple's room, two guards standing in front of the door, bowed and opened the door. The room in front of her is white with a large portrait of the royal family in front of her. Princess Kaira in the picture looks exactly like the Queen that one might as well think they are sisters.

The prince turns to her right and walks past as if she wasn't there at all. Veronica follows him. The prince opens the large white oak doors. The royal couple is already sitting and having breakfast. The king doesn't even look up when he says '' You're late.'' The big scar makes him look even uglier today compared to yesterday.

The prince doesn't say anything but sits down on the table as if he hadn't heard what the king had said. The Queen looks all pale in the face while she looks between her son and husband. For every second that passes in silence she pales more and more until she is all while in the face. It becomes Veronica who breaks the silence '' Excuse me, Your Majesty it's my fault. The servant didn't come and wake me up until late, it won't happen again.''

The king looks up from the plate at Veronica, already feeling the tingle along her arms and spine. '' Did you punish her?'', the king says, his voice giving her the worst shivers in the world.

Veronica stutters. '' Pun..ish? Yes of course I did.''

The king kept looking at her with such intensity that Veronica thought he knew she was fake. That his real niece is not the one in front of him. After a few seconds the king looked down to the plate. Veronica could breathe again normally.
