Kiyotaka Ayanokoji sat in his dorm room, the soft hum of the air conditioner the only sound breaking the silence. It was only the start of summer vacation, a time when most students would be reminiscing about their adventures or catching up with friends. Kiyotaka, however, had spent the past weeks in relative isolation, content with the quiet and the lack of social obligationsClass 1-B 850 class points

He gazed out the window looking at the hot burning sun. The idea of making friends had always seemed more of a strategic maneuver than a personal desire. For him, friendships were potential liabilities, entanglements that could complicate his carefully maintained freedom. He had learned long ago that solitude provided a certain clarity and control that social interactions often disrupted.
The few interactions he had engaged in were deliberate and calculated, each serving a specific purpose. As he contemplated the approaching school term, Kiyotaka reaffirmed his satisfaction with this arrangement. The solitude allowed him to navigate his surroundings without the distractions and vulnerabilities that came with deeper relationships.
His phone buzzed, a rare occurrence that pulled him from his thoughts. It was Sudō Ken, a classmate and an occasional ally in the more turbulent waters of school life.
“Hey, Ayanokoji! Got a minute?” Sudō’s voice was brash, as always, but there was a note of urgency in it.
“What’s up?” Kiyotaka replied, his tone measured.
“There’s a fortune-teller in Keyaki Mall I’ve been hearing about. Thought it might be interesting to check out. Want to join?”
Kiyotaka considered the offer, intrigued by the potential for gathering useful information or simply observing human behavior. “Sure. I’ll meet you there.”
As he hung up, he reflected on the irony. Despite his preference for solitude, situations like these often led to unexpected opportunities. Perhaps it was the unpredictability of human nature that made such encounters worthwhile, even if only for the insights they provided.
Keyaki Mall was bustling with activity as Kiyotaka made his way to the appointed meeting spot. The vibrant energy of students and families contrasted sharply with the serene isolation he had just left behind. He spotted Sudō near the entrance of a small shop with a sign that read “Fortunes & Futures.”
“Yo, Ayanokoji!” Sudō waved, his enthusiasm palpable.
Kiyotaka nodded in greeting. “How’s the basketball going?”
Sudō’s face lit up. “Tough, but good. We had this crazy tournament recently. The restrictions were insane, but I managed to pull through. Got a lot of practice, and it was a real test of endurance.”
Kiyotaka listened, noting the genuine pride in Sudō’s voice. “Sounds like it was challenging.”
“It was,” Sudō agreed. “But you know, those kinds of challenges are what make you stronger. Anyway, this fortune-teller thing should be a fun change of pace. You ever been to one?”
Kiyotaka shook his head. “Not really. But I’m curious to see what it’s about.”
As they approached the shop, Kiyotaka’s phone buzzed again. He glanced at the screen and saw Kei Karuizawa’s name. An idea formed in his mind.
“Hold on a moment,” he told Sudō, stepping aside to make the call. Kei answered on the second ring.
“Kiyotaka? What’s up?”
