Kiyotaka Ayanokoji navigated the narrow, dimly lit corridors of the ship’s lowest level, a part generally prohibited to students. The walls were cold and bare, and the faint hum of the ship's machinery added an ominous backdrop to his steps. His phone’s reception flickered, underscoring the isolation of the area. He found Kushida Kikyou waiting for him near a rusted door, her posture tense and alert.“Kiyotaka-kun,” Kushida greeted, her voice barely above a whisper. Her usual cheerful demeanor was replaced with a more serious expression.
“Kushida,” he replied, glancing around to ensure they were alone. “We need to discuss our strategy for this exam.”
Kushida nodded, her eyes sharp. “In my group, I’m the VIP. What about yours?”
“Kei is the VIP in my group,” Kiyotaka revealed. “Here’s the plan: I’ll talk to each Class D student about who’s the VIP and who’s not. Those who are VIPs will need to conceal their identities. Those who aren’t will report everything that happens in their group meetings to you.”
Kushida leaned against the cold metal wall, processing his words. “You want them to gather intel and report back to me so we can expose the VIPs in other classes and protect our own. It’s risky, but it could work.”
Kiyotaka nodded. “Yes. This exam is about manipulating information. We need to be one step ahead.”
Kushida’s gaze turned contemplative. “We’ll need to be careful about how we handle the information. If anyone finds out what we’re doing, it could backfire.”
Kiyotaka’s eyes met hers, and for a moment, their mutual determination was palpable. “That’s why we need to keep our meetings secret and avoid drawing attention.”
Kushida's expression softened slightly. “I can manage that. I’ll be discreet and ensure the information flows smoothly.”
As they discussed the finer points of their strategy, Kiyotaka couldn’t help but admire Kushida’s ability to switch between her sweet persona and her calculating, manipulative side. It was a skill that could be both a blessing and a curse, depending on how it was used.
Before they parted, Kushida touched his arm lightly. “Be careful, Kiyotaka-kun. This plan puts a lot of trust in our classmates. Make sure they don’t let us down.”
Kiyotaka nodded, feeling the weight of the plan settle on his shoulders. “I will. We’ll meet here again to adjust our strategy as needed.”
With a final exchange of understanding, they both melted back into the shadows of the ship’s lower levels, their steps echoing faintly as they returned to their rooms, each carrying the burden of the strategy that would shape Class D’s fate in the coming days.
The next morning, Kiyotaka found Suzune Horikita waiting for him on the ship’s deck, the early sunlight casting a warm glow over the water. The air was crisp and filled with the soft murmur of the sea. Suzune stood by the railing, her posture confident and her eyes bright with determination.
“ ayanokoji kun” Suzune greeted him, her voice steady. “I’m ready for this exam. I’m confident we can secure a victory.”
Kiyotaka approached, leaning against the railing beside her. “It’s good to see you so focused. I’ve been working on building a cooperative relationship with Hirata. His support will be crucial.”
Suzune’s gaze softened slightly, a rare smile touching her lips. “That’s a smart move. Hirata’s influence can help us unite the class.”
Kiyotaka considered his next words carefully. “I have a plan involving the VIPs in our groups. It’s risky, but it could give us a significant advantage.”
