Dance the night away

Cleo took her hand in yours and dragged you over to the ballroom floor.

"You better know how to dance," Cleo whispered, but there was no real heat behind her voice.

"Of course I do. Oh God, my father was obsessed with me being a proper young lady and knowing how to dance," you replied, leaning your head on Cleo's shoulder.

Your fingers intertwined with Cleo's, and the other hand held her waist, Cleo's hand, however, rested on your shoulder. The two of you stepped to the slow music, your movements in sync. Cleo spun you around on one of your heels. Your other leg was raised slightly. She then dipped you down, your back fell into her arms, you looked into her eyes, they were like glowing green pools of light.

"You're doing an awful lot of staring," Cleo chuckled.

"Oh please," you rolled your eyes, a smile still on your face. "It's not like I can look anywhere else, darling," you then stand upright, still holding onto Cleo. You didn't notice it till now, but your heart was racing, loudly hammering in your chest just by the closeness from you both. You took a deep breath, trying to calm your breathing and hoping Cleo didn't hear the sound of your heart. There were a lot of emotions that you felt throughout working with V.I.L.E, but right here, right now, you knew that you loved Cleo. All the small things she did would simply feel empty without them.

"Cleo.." You start.

"Yes?" she looks directly into your eyes. You took a deep breath, preparing yourself for what you're about to say.

"I l-" just as you were about to confess your love for Cleo, a glass dings to notify people to gather round as your idiot brother starts his speech. "Never mind, it is not important," Cleo rolls her eyes at that.

"Oh please, they say the same thing every year. They yap on for twenty minutes or so, then hold a small auction," Cleo smiles, look down at you. "I think we can spend our time elsewhere tonight rather than listening to rich people ramble,"

"Hey, I know a balcony that's far away from this all," you say. Of course, it was the balcony from the night you killed your father, but it felt somewhat yours. You take Cleo's hand and lead her up the stairs, carefully avoiding the rooms that had very questionable noises coming from them and to the balcony.

"Ah, finally, some fresh air," Cleo breathed in the crisp and colder night air.

"So..," you exhale, glad to be able to catch a break from the ball. "Cleo, there are certain feelings I have for you..," Cleo turns her head to look straight at you, and only you, her green eyes boring into yours.

"Cleo, I like you! In more than a friend way, like you're so amazing," you blurt out, shutting your eyes and bracing for rejection. Maybe all those nicknames were just friendly. Maybe you had imagined any jealousy or affection, maybe you were just a co-worker in her eyes. But all that quickly washed away from your mind when a pair of arms were wrapped around you. You open your eyes to see Cleo smiling so brightly.

"I like you too, flower," she laughs, thinking how silly it sounded, almost like a schoolgirl crush.

"I don't really do this kind of stuff," you mutter. "Be in relationships, I mean,"

"That's okay, we'll be okay," Cleo pauses from a moment before speaking again. "Can I...can I kiss you?"

"Please, darling," you smile up at her. You both close your eyes, her lips presses onto yours, your chest burning with fireworks of happiness. You instinctively wrap your arms around Cleo's neck, and she cups your face in her hands. Cleo breaks away from the kiss.

"So does this mean we're..." she let's the end of the sentence hang in the air. "Dating?"

"If you want to," you say.

"Oh, absolutely," she replies almost instantly.

"I'm glad, darling," you smile. Cleo and you sit on the balcony floor in each other's arms. "What do we do now?" Cleo's gaze fixes on the star painted sky, the shiny glitter-like specks dazzles in the reflection of her eyes.

"Not sure," she replies. "See where life takes us next?"
