AFTER THE MOVIE, the party relocated to Dustin's house. He was returning from a trip today, and everyone wanted to surprise him.
Alex still felt weird about what happened at the movies, but he tried to ignore it for now.
El used her powers to make his old toys move, luring him to the living room while the others stood behind a wall. They crept up behind him, the toys stopping right in the middle of the living room. Lucas held up a banner with WELCOME HOME DUSTIN! written on it, while everyone stood behind him. Max was on the side though, counting down with her fingers. They all brew their party horns, Dustin clearly getting scared and spraying some of Steve's hairspray into the brown boy's eyes.
Alex had to stifle a laugh at Lucas's scream, since it was almost identical to the one he let out when Max scared them last year on Halloween.
Alex, along with Max, led Lucas to the sink, where he washed his eyes out with water.
"Better?" Max asked, frowning as Lucas finally pulled his head out of the water.
"Still stings," Lucas inhaled, rubbing his eyes. Once he opened them, he pointed to Max's forehead, giving her a questionable look, "Is that a new zit?"
"What is wrong with you?" Max rose her eyebrows, grabbing a hold of his hair and sticking his head under the flowing water again.
"I was just asking-" Lucas screamed, and Alex couldn't help but laugh.
"Wait, so her name is Suzie?"
"Suzie with a "z." She's from Utah."
"Girls go to science camp?"
"Susie does. She's a genius."
"Is she cute?"
"Think Phoebe Cates, only hotter."
Alex arched an eyebrow, watching as everyone got out the door. "What's going on?" Both him and Max questioned at the same time.
"We're going to talk to Dustin's girlfriend."
"Girlfriend?" Lucas, Max and Alex gapped as they looked at Will in disbelief.
......
"AREN'T WE HIGH ENOUGH?" Lucas asked as the party all walked up a hill.
"Cerebro works best at 100 meters." Dustin continued walking, giving Lucas a small head shake. Alex sighed.
"You know, I'm pretty sure people in Utah have telephones." Max spoke sarcastically.
"Yeah, but Suzie's Mormon."
"Oh, shit. She doesn't have electricity?"
"That's the Amish, Lucas," Alex finally spoke up, still panting as they made their way up the hill. "Mormons do have electricity and cars and stuff, while the Amish... don't." Alex shrugged. He remembered this from Mr. Clarke's class.
"-and since I'm not Mormon, her parents would never approve," Dustin bounced off the Wheeler boy's words. "It's all a bit - Shakespearean."
"Hey, guys!" Mike called out from behind them. "This is fun and all but uh.." Mike pretended to check his watch.
"I have to go home." El smiled, linking her arm with Mike's.
Alex arched an eyebrow at his brother, knowing that he just wants to make-out with El again. Yeah - he did the same thing with Max, but at least it wasn't completely obsessive.
"We're almost there." Dustin frowned, pointing to the top of the hill.
"Sorry, man. Curfew." Mike then grabbed El's hand.
"Good luck."
"Curfew at 4:00?"
"They're lying."
"It's been like this all summer."
"It's romantic." Max shrugged.
"I agree with Max." Alex mimicked her actions, the corner of his lips turning up into a small smile.
"It's gross."
"It's bullshit." Dustin spat, "I just got home." He sighed. "Well, their loss, right? Onwards and upwards! Suzie awaits!"
Both Alex & Max sighed.
"I'm so thirsty." Lucas sighed as they finally made it up the hill. He pulled out a canteen out of his backpack, swiftly drinking the whole thing.
"Ew." Alex mumbled as he watched Lucas gulp down the water with furrowed eyebrows.
"Did you seriously just drink the rest of our water?" Max tilted her head to the side. Lucas spit some of the remaining water in his mouth back into the canteen. He gave a sheepish smile, holding it out to the redhead.
......
"-Do you copy? This is Dustin. Over." The curly-haired boy spoke for the umpteenth time, only to her the hiss of the radio static as a response. "Suzie! This is Dustin. Do you copy? Over." He sighed.
It was already dark outside, and while Dustin tried to contact his girlfriend (which everyone doubted was real), Alex laid next to Max, humming Love Grows with a small smile as he stared at the stars.
"Are you ever going to stop singing that?" Max turned to her boyfriend.
"It's a good song!" Alex protested, turning his head to the side. "Plus, you told me you liked it!"
Max gave him a small smirk. "I lied." She shrugged.
Alex furrowed his brows, propping himself up on his elbows so he could look at her better. "..That's not funny."
"I'm kidding." Max laughed.
