Y/N'S P.O.V.:
"I can be Suguru for you."
Kenjaku's words were roaming in my mind all night long. He's saying it even now.
It was 12 am. I was sitting on the couch in my dark bedroom. The only light was the decaying moon of the dark fortnight and the red glow from the cherry of my cigarette. My free hand held the sleeve of one of Suguru's robes. Suguru has been dead for a year, but I can't throw anything out. He's been my boyfriend since we were studying at Jujutsu Tech.
Suguru is dead, but Kenjaku has his body now.
"What do you mean by that?" I asked slowly.
"It's very simple actually. I can take control of Suguru's body, so I can become him. I can become your boyfriend again." Kenjaku said, sliding a hand up my arm and taking my hand.
"That's the point. Why do you want to be my boyfriend? What do you want?" I glared at him sharply.
"Don't you want to feel his touch again? His gaze? Don't you want him to whisper in your ear?" He took my cigarette from me and put it into his own mouth and took a deep drag.
"Ahh, what are you doing to me?" I sighed, "Why am I even listening to you?"
"Because you want it." He moved his face close to mine and placed his other hand on my cheek, grabbing my chin as he leaned in to kiss me. The cigarette dangled in his mouth.
"You ain't my Suguru. You are just his body." I stood up from the couch. "H-how can I-I..."
"That won't stop me from acting like him." He caught my wrist immediately. "I'm an ancient curse user. I can possess bodies, and I've had Suguru's body for a year. I can be him, and you know you want me to be him." He moved closer, invading my personal space. He whispered in my ear, "Do you remember the nights we spent together?"
I threw up his hand and looked down at him. "How do you know about that?" I was surprised.
"I have his memories, baby. I remember it like he has it." He smiled as he tried to grab my hand again, and I refused. "Please, please do this for me. I promise I will be exactly like him."
I was fighting inside what I should do. I walked to the window of the 48th floor and looked outside at the starry night sky.
He stood behind me and put his hands on my palm. "You're thinking so hard; it's adorable. I can make you stop thinking; I can make you feel." His hand slides up to my chin, forcing me to look at him. He leaned in, pressing his body against mine, placing his hands on my shoulders.
"All I have to do is this." He leaned against me. "And all the stress and pain of yours will be melted away."
I looked up at him with my teary eyes as he embraced me. "K-Ken..." I couldn't speak more.
His arms pulled me even closer to him as our bodies were touching each other. He brought one hand to my ear and whispered in a deep voice, "Don't I feel just like him?" His other hand was placed on my waist and slowly started to make its way to my thighs. "You want to feel him again, don't you?"
"I want to feel him again. I want to be with him again. I want him to love me again," tears dripping down through my cheeks.
"I can do that. I can love you like he did. I can love you as he loved you. I can give you the same touch, the same look in his eyes."
I looked up at his black eyes. That same gaze, that same look, that same affection. "I don't know what to do. I really don't."
"Let me decide." He began kissing my neck, moving my hands higher. "Let me decide for you. Don't think, just feel. You want him? You have him. You want his touch? You have it. You want to melt into his embrace and be safe in his affection? You have that too."
I touched his hand. "the same hand, same fingers," I murmured. I touched his chest and moved his kimono collar a bit. "The same cross mark that Toji made," I murmured again. "The same scent that Suguru had."
"I can give you that and more. You want to feel like you're back with him? Then let yourself feel. Let yourself melt into my embrace. Take my hand."
He took my hand and brought it to his chest, so our palms were pressed together on top of his heart. "Feel my heartbeat. Is it the same as he had?"
"The same heartbeat," I gulped, looking at his chest and then his eyes.
"I have his body, his heart. I can give you everything he could do." He pulled me close to him again, our bodies pressed together. "Do you feel like you're with him right now? Or do you still think I'm not him?"
I gazed up at his forehead. "He didn't have this," I said in a lower tone as I pointed at the stitches on his forehead.
"Does that ruin things for you?" He leaned back and looked down at me. "Suguru didn't have these, that's true. But I have his mind, his memories, his scent, and his voice. I act exactly like him. All you need to do is close your eyes and pretend they aren't there. Pretend you're with him again." He began kissing my neck once more.
"You don't have his brain. Leave his body," I said flat out.
He stopped. There was a long silence, the only sounds being the steady breathing of the both of us.
"Why?" His tone was cold but distressed.
"Just leave his body. You're not Suguru. You're Kenjaku hiding beneath Suguru's body."
"And then what?" He said, his voice still cold. "If I leave his body, would you accept that I'm not him and go about your life as normal? No, you would be grieving as if he were dead all over again." He let out a small grunt, as if what he was saying was hurting him as much as it was hurting me. "But all of that would be unnecessary... if you just accepted that I am him, I can be him, and I will never stop being Suguru to you."
My eyes softened a bit.
"Do you accept me?" He asked as he began moving his hands again. "Do you see me as Suguru? If you can do that, then you won't have to be sad. He didn't die; I am him; he is me, we're one." He
He brought his mouth close to my ears. "Just accept me." He murmured.
"Let me think about it," I sighed. "I need time."
He stared at me for a long moment before sighing. "Fine, take your time. It is a big thing to ask." He removed his hands from me. "Would you at least let me stay?"
"Well, you can stay. But don't force me, okay?" I turned my gaze outside towards the window again. "Let me heal my wounds."
"I won't force you." He leaned against the window as well, standing beside me. It's almost as if he had completely dropped the whole act, and he was just himself. He stared out into the night before letting out a small sigh. "You're right. You need time. I just want you to stay with me."
I moved to the couch. I sat down and lightened up another cigarette. Then I inhaled a bunch of strong tobacco smoke. "Stay here. You can stay in Suguru's room." I glanced up at him and pointed my index finger to his torso. "After all, this body belongs to him."
"I know that," he said, sighing. "You don't have to keep reminding me." He moved away from the window and took a seat on the couch beside me. "I understand that." He leaned back on the couch and let out another sigh, lighting up his own cigarette.
"But you know I will just be back later... right? Do you... even want me to leave?"
"Ken, it's already 12:40 am. Go sleep and let me think." I sighed and inhaled another rush of smoke.
"I have no need to sleep." He said simply, taking a drag from the cigarette, the tip glowing red. His gaze shifts back to me, his expression softening, as far as it can. "You want me to leave you alone? Is that what it is? You don't want me around right now?"
"It's not exactly like that... maybe you need some rest," I said.
"And what about you?" He asked, letting out another drag. "I doubt you're going to get any more sleep tonight. You're just going to be thinking about him and crying, no?" He made me take a sudden glance at him.
"Well, it's true, isn't it?" He took one final drag from his cigarette before nipping it in an ashtray. "You're still in love with him. You keep all of his hoodies, you keep all of his pictures, you keep every little thing about him." His hand began moving to my wrist as he took my cigarette once again and nipped it in the ashtray. "You keep everything... but his body, me." He paused for a moment. "Don't smoke that much, Y/N."
I smiled sadly as he called me by the nickname that Suguru used to call me. "Why do you even care?"
"Why do I even care?" He laughed, a cold laugh. "Am I supposed to be some cold, heartless monster? Am I supposed to care for nobody? Does that make you feel better?" His voice had that same edge to it that I was so used to with Suguru. "Of course I care about you. I... we... well, we're in the same boat here, aren't we? We both want to be loved, and you haven't found that in anyone but Suguru?"
"Yeah, I want to be loved... by Suguru." I lit up the third cigarette. "I didn't even think about you."
"I know." He leaned back, closing his eyes. "Trust me, I know." He took a long breath before speaking again with his eyes closed. "I know you want his love. I know that. But it won't come. Suguru's gone; you know that as well as I do. The only thing you have left is me."
"Well, you don't need to go anywhere tonight. Not even in Suguru's room." I tried to change the topic and said, "Stay here."
He opened his eyes, looking at me with disbelief. There was a softness in my voice, not something I would usually use on him. "Really? You want me to stay here with you?"
"Why? Don't you want to stay here with me?" I raised a brow.
"I mean... of course I want to stay here with you." He smirked as he leaned back to the headrest of the couch again. "It's just that you usually don't want me around..."
I laughed, "Go change your outfit first."
"What? Why do I need to change my outfit?" He asked, giving me a confused look as he sat up.
"Want to sleep wearing this weird kimono?" I rolled my eyes. "You better put on some comfy clothes, like a t-shirt or something like this."
"Alright... fine." He said, rolling my eyes as well. "I'll go and put on one of Suguru's clothes." He inhaled a breath as he got up from the couch, walking towards the door.
"Do you... need anything until I get back?"
"Wait." I walked towards my cupboard and pulled a white sleeping robe from it. It's Suguru's sleeping robe. "Put this on, Ken," I handed it to Kenjaku.
"How many of his things do you have here anyway?" He took the robe and inspected it for a moment. The familiar scent of Suguru's perfume lingered on the robe.
He took a deep breath before speaking again. "Suguru used to wear this, didn't he?"
I smiled at him, "Go to the restroom where you can change your clothes."
"Alright."
