Chapter Two - Friendship is Magic: Part Two

"Seize her!" Mayor Mare shouted. "Only she knows where the Princess is!" The Princess' pegasi guards started flying towards Snooty Moon.

"Stand back, you foals!" Queen Meanie laughed as the pegasi were shot down by lightning. There was screaming and chaos as the alicorn turned into a blue smoke and flew out the door.

Rainbow Dash was able to escape from Applejack's jaws, Applejack grunted as she fell and Melody heard her best, and really only, friend shout, "Come back here!" Melody ran after her friend and as she pulled up under her, she saw that she was watching something. Twilight Sparkle was running away, the baby dragon Spike on her back.

Applejack, Rarity, Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie caught up to Rainbow Dash and Melody. Rainbow Dash flew down to join the girls.

"We've gotta follow her." Melody decided. "She knows something and we need to find out what." The others agreed and raced to Twilight Sparkle's library-treehouse.

As they walked into the treehouse library, Twilight was tossing all the books off the bookshelf muttering to herself, "Elements, elements... ugh! How can I stop Nightmare Moon without the Elements of Harmony?"

"And just what are the Elements of Harmony?" Rainbow Dash demanded, shoving her face into the other pony's. "And how did you know about Nightmare Moon, huh? Are you a spy?" She was pulled back by Applejack.

"I said we were going to find out what she knew." Melody whispered to Rainbow Dash, "not that we were going to accuse her."

"Simmer down, Sally." Applejack said. "She ain't no spy. But she sure knows what's going on. Don't you Twilight?" By this point all of them were standing in front of Twilight who bowed her head down.

"I read all about the prediction of Nightmare Moon. Some mysterious objects called the Elements of Harmony are the only things that can stop her, but I don't know what they are, where to find them; I don't even know what they do!"

"'The Elements of Harmony: A Reference Guide,'" Pinkie Pie read, capturing everyone's attention.

Twilight ran towards Pinkie, pummeling her away. "How did you find that?!"

"It was under 'E!'" Pinkie responded, jumping up and down, unfazed by the direct collision.

"Oh." Twilight looked a mixture of embarrassed and annoyed but pulled out the book. She flipped open to a page and read. "'There are seven Elements of Harmony but only six are known: Kindness, Laughter, Generosity, Honesty, Loyalty and Peace. The seventh is a complete mystery. It is said, the last known location of the six elements was in the ancient castle of the royal pony sisters. It is located in what is now..."

"... The Everfree Forest!" The ponies all exclaimed in horror.

Melody stared at the dark forest in front of her. Since she was a filly her parents had warned against entering it.

"It's full of timberwolves, scary trees and dangerous, spooky animals." Her father had told her, before tucking her into bed when she was a filly. Now she was about to enter it. Melody swore she heard a haunting tune playing as they stood there. Melody had been born and raised in Fillydelphia, but her father was from Ponyville and he'd allegedly ventured into the Forest, albeit not far, as a young colt.

"Whee! Let's go!" Pinkie exclaimed, walking towards the trees.

"Not so fast." Pinkie paused as the words left Twilight's mouth. "Look, I appreciate the offer, but I'd really rather do this on my own."

"No can do, sugarcube." Applejack responded, "We sure ain't lettin' any friend of ours go into that creepy place alone." Applejack, Fluttershy, Rarity, Rainbow Dash and Melody started trotting into the forest, leaving Twilight without a chance to object." We're stickin' to you like caramel on a candy apple."
