Heer's POV:

A few weeks have passed by, and I'm finally back on track with my studies. Those long nights paid off, and I'm finally prepared for the exam next week.

My relationship with Ayaan is going well too, not ideal but we are making progress. We have breakfast together, go to our respective work, and then have dinner together at night.

We have finally shifted into one room because... well, I don't know. Ayaan just said if I wanted to, I could move my stuff here.

Right now, I was making dinner for the night. I decided to go for murg makhni (butter chicken). I had the day off because of our upcoming exams, so I had been studying since the morning.

The bell rang, indicating that Ayaan had arrived as I went to open the door. Opening the door revealed an exhausted-looking Ayaan with a bleeding lip.

"Hey, are you fine?" I asked him, worried.

"Yeah, I am, don't worry," he replied, making his way upstairs.

"Your lip is bleeding," I asked again.

"I got angry, and well, the other person didn't handle it well," he said, sighing and rubbing his temple, going upstairs.

Author's POV:

Heer walked away towards the kitchen as she grabbed the first aid box. She made her way back to the room and saw Ayaan examining his face in the mirror.

He watched her through the mirror as she indicated for him to sit on the bed. He frowned a little at her request, but his expression relaxed seeing the first aid.

"I'm fine, it's not that big of an injury," Ayaan said.

"Come on, sit down. Let me just disinfect it," she said, opening the box and taking out the ointment, not giving heed to his statement.

He looked at Heer for a while before taking a seat where she patted on the bed. Heer picked up a cotton swab and gently poured some ointment on it, focusing on her work. On the other hand, Ayaan's eyes traced her movements. She made her way towards him and stood in front of him. She tilted his face up to get a clear look at his busted lip. She gently applied the ointment on him, and though Ayaan remained unfazed, her face changed expression.

Heer was so engrossed in helping him gently that she didn't notice the distance that was minimizing every second, but Ayaan did. He was hyper-aware of everything: the way her lips quivered while putting on the cream, the way the wind blew her hair as she tucked it behind her ear, the jingling ghajra in her ear, her chest rising and falling with every breath slightly grazing his arm.

"And done!" Heer exclaimed, breaking Ayaan's staring session as he looked at her smiling.

Heer packed up the stuff and headed outside as she ordered him, "You can wash your face, but keep that area dry," she pointed to his lips as he nodded absentmindedly.

Heer closed the door as Ayaan blinked his eyes. He took a deep breath as he rubbed the side of his face. What was he doing? He promised never to fall into the trap of love, so what was this? He sighed again, getting up to change, knowing that dinner was almost ready.

He went downstairs to see Heer setting up the table and helped her. They had dinner together as Heer talked about her day while Ayaan listened.

Heer's POV:

After dinner, I went towards our room while Ayaan did his office work. I changed and talked to Papa for some time before I decided to go to bed. Ayaan came soon after, and I soon drifted to sleep.

I was woken up from my sleep by crying sounds. I woke up scared and turned on my side lamp to see Ayaan beside me. He was sweating and mumbling some incoherent sentences.

"Stop... g-get me out, get me o-out," Ayaan whimpered.

I sat on my knees and tapped his face. He had a high fever. "Ayaan... Ayaan, wake up," I said, really worried about what to do.

"Open the door," Ayaan panted again.

Get him out? What was he talking about? A few tears escaped his eyes as I patted his face again, a little harder this time.

"Ayaan, please get up... come on," I urged.

Ayaan's eyes snapped open as he was panting hard. I quickly reached the side table and grabbed the jug, pouring him a glass of water. He grabbed it with shaking hands. As I got up to keep the glass, I was stopped as I looked behind to see Ayaan holding my wrist.

"Stay... please," he begged. I kept the glass aside and hugged him. He snuggled in, relaxing and taking deep breaths.

The Ayaan I knew, indifferent, cold, and calculated, was long gone, and in front of me, hugging me, was the vulnerable Ayaan I was experiencing for the first time.

I heard soft snores, indicating he was asleep. My heart ached seeing this side of him. I knew something was bothering him, and I would get to the bottom of it.
