SHE NEVER HAD A NAME, not a birth-given one, like Carly, Alice, or Jane. She never had a proper home or family, though she didn't necessarily mind, she thought it was normal. She thought her entire life was completely normal. She didn't think about life on the other side, the world just behind the thick metal door.
She never questioned anything, just did as she was told. 'Pathologically incurious' is what 4 calls her. She didn't know if it was an insult or not, she didn't care enough to ask.
The life of a lab rat wasn't pleasing or anything, but it was what she knew. She was raised to be dealt with a bad hand, taught to obey and endure, and never forget the labels they placed on her and her siblings.
The Failed Experiments, they called them.
Her siblings gave each other names to replace their assigned number, they gave 5 a name of strength — Bear.
However, it didn't take long for one of her siblings to plan out an escape out of the lab. It took about 2 weeks for the plan to pursue and about 2 hours for everyone to be dead.
At the age of 16, Bear was the only one to walk out of the massacre alive...
