y/n's pov
It was the third week of school already. here i was again, spending my lunch alone on the rooftop. every day i've been up here and every day i've been alone. i have no friends. after my mother's passing, my dad decided to move to another prefecture. he wanted a new beginning. a restart from the past. we ended up in miyagi. i attend aoba johsai high.

"well you're awfully gloomy." i heard an unfamiliar voice behind me. i turned around curiously it was oikawa tooru. i didn't know him personally, but i've heard of him. he's an attractive third year who's a volleyball star. most days, he's surrounded by fan girls or friends. just people in general. i believe a teammate of his is in my class...although i can't seem to remember his name.
"i've seen you come up here every day for two weeks straight." he let out a soft chuckle as he walked to stand beside me. my eyes followed his movements. "why?" he suddenly asked, looking down on me. he was quite tall. i didn't answer right away. i looked away from him and at the scenery ahead of us instead. "i like being alone." i replied. "why are you up here?" i asked. he chuckled. "my answer isn't too different from yours...just wanted an actual break from my fan girls." his tone had a hint of arrogance. "i'm assuming you know what i'm talking about..?" oikawa asked. "yeah...i see you surrounded by people a lot of the time." my response earned a slight laugh from him. "i meant that i'm assuming you know what it's like to have fans." i looked over at him and he looked at me with a smirk. "me? have fans?" i looked at him quizzically. "i'm not a good athlete...i'm not a good anything." oikawa's face softened. "...but you're pretty." he said in such a simple manner it surprised me. "pretty?" guys have never called me pretty before. especially not guys like oikawa. it was my mom that called me pretty. he chuckled, "how humble you are...you don't even know that you're pretty." he said with a teasing tone. his words made me feel...happy..but i quickly shut that feeling down. he was probably making fun of me. "please...don't mock me." i sighed. oikawa's eyes widened a bit. "what?? i'm not-..." he let out a scoff. "you've got some serious walls built around that heart of yours." he shook his head as another smirk crept up onto his face. "don't worry. i'll break them down eventually." and with that he turned around and left, giving me one last charming smirk. that interaction left me questioning his intentions. he'll break down the walls i've built around my heart? what walls? there certainty none right?...right?*:・゚✧*:・゚✧

"so did you talk to that girl?" iwaizumi, my best friend, asked. it was after school and we were on our way to volleyball practice. i arrogantly replied, "which one?" my joke earned an annoyed glare from iwa. "the one you asked kyotani about. don't get all cocky trashykawa." i rolled my eyes with a scoff. "i hate these names...anyways..yeah i talked to her." i ran a hand through my hair. "she has a story..." this made iwa's eyebrow raise. "what the hell are you talking about oikawa?" he asked with a curious tone. "she's quite gloomy if i'm being honest. based off of the information i got from kyotani, she doesn't have many friends...or any for that matter." my explanation made iwa roll his eyes. "so what? you tryna be some sorta hero? save her from possible loneliness?" he mocked. "pfft no...i just think she's pretty.." i smirked. "she's gorgeous actually. you know...when i told her she's pretty, she thought i was mocking her." iwa gave me a confused look. "anyways...i want to get to know l/n f/n. she has a spark she's hiding."

past- oikawa's pov
"hi oikawa!"
"how's it going oikawa?"
i didn't miss a single greeting i earned from my fan girls. they're all too cute to ignore! i walked down the school hallways with a smirk on my face. i was on my way to kyotani's class. coach was making me tutor him before our upcoming game. he needed to get his grades up in order to play so as his upperclassmen i happily offered to help. he wasn't too happy with that though.
"kyotaniiiii..." i said in a singing tone. i walked into his class and the first thing i noticed is the prettiest girl i had ever seen... "holy..." i accidentally said aloud. she looked like a painting. looking at her made me feel a blend of excitement and nervousness in one. my heart was skipping beats as i watched her pack her school bag. there was something about her that made me want me to get to know her beyond the surface...beyond her adorable face. "are you just going to stand there or are you going to come over here and tutor me!?" i heard kyotani say as he gave me a nasty scowl. "oh..right..sorry." i walked over to his desk, looking back at the girl once more. she walked out the class without giving me a single glance. i was slightly hurt...but it only made my heart beat faster..gosh she was stunning.
while tutoring kyotani, i kept thinking about that girl. there was something about her that was so intriguing. "...kyotani..who was that girl?" he lifted his head up from his notebook once he heard my voice. "what girl?" he asked roughly. "the quiet one with the (hair color) hair and (eye color) eyes...she sat over there." i pointed to the seat she was sitting in before she left. his gaze looked to where i pointed. "i don't know...l/n f/n.." he grumbled. despite not saying it verbally, kyotani's facial expression revealed he definitely thought she was cute too. "what's she like?" i proceeded to question him. i wanted to know this girl. "...i don't know her well but..she's always alone?...and..she doesn't talk unless the teacher calls on her." i nodded in understanding. it made sense. she seemed reserved based off of her initial demeanor. still, i wanted to talk to her. if she had no friends then i'd gladly be her first. "you don't mind if i try to pursue her right?" i gave him a smug smile to which he glared at. "i know you think she's cute."
"shut up..i don't." kyotani rolled his eyes. i was pleased with myself. since he denied it, that means he won't mind me going after her. there's nothing stopping me from pursuing the ethereal beauty, l/n
