It was as if Blaze knew where he was going. With no saddle and no bridle, the pair just sat atop the horse comfortably as he trudged through the snow.

"So," Gilan broke the silence as they rode. "Is there anything you wanna tell me now?"

Y/N held back from saying anything for a moment. "Not really."

"You sure?" Gilan gently shoved her shoulder. "Because it seems like your teeming with things to tell me."

Y/N raised a brow and scoffed. "For a Ranger, you're really good at reading people, aren't you?"

"I was joking, you don't seem keen to tell me anything at all." Gilan muttered. "If you don't want to say anything, that's fine. But I do like to know a thing or two about my friends."

"Friend?" Y/N questioned.

Gilan almost went to backtrack his words, but instead held firm. "Well, unless you'd rather be sworn enemies."

Y/N laughed lightly. "No, I guess friends is alright."

"Good," Gilan straightened his shoulders a little. "Could you tell me just one thing? Anything?"

"Fine." Y/N agreed. "What do you want to know?"

"How did you come to be with Crowley if you're not his apprentice? And why did he send you here to train with Halt rather than just stay with him?" He asked.

The girl now fully realized how difficult it was going to be to hide everything from Gilan. He was smart, inquisitive, and seemed to see right into her. He would see through her lies and catch the errors in her words when she tried to dance around certain topics.

"Long story," Y/N grimaced. "Crowley found me and took me in. As for why he sent me here? Maybe he just figured Halt would do a better job at teaching me. Plus, Castle Araluen is a busy place and so is Crowley right now. But, who knows, really."

Gilan hummed in understanding. To Y/N's surprise though, he didn't ask any follow up questions. She'd told him more than just one thing, which was his original ask, and that was plenty enough. He didn't need to pry her for anything else.

But he knew she was still holding back the full truth. She did know. Only a person who knew said that they weren't really sure and say it with such a lack of confidence.

Y/N was going to be tough to get through to, he knew. Though, he wasn't sure what kind of good person wasn't. Halt had been difficult, and remained difficult, but Gilan knew deep down Halt was a good person. Y/N, he hoped, was the same.

"I know it wasn't exactly in your hands to decide," Y/N started quietly. "But thank you for letting me stay, too."

Gilan was now worried about what it was Y/N wasn't telling him. It shouldn't be that a person was surprised to be allowed to stay somewhere. They shouldn't walk into any scenario expecting immediate rejection and be filled with relief and surprise when they weren't turned away and kicked out the door.

"Of course." Gilan sounded softly. "It'll be nice having someone else around. Halt is great, but it gets a little lonely somedays."

"You? Lonely?" Y/N asked with slight disbelief. "Granted, I don't know you that well, but I see you as the kind of person who might have quite a few friends."

"We're not all what we seem," Gilan put a hand on her shoulder. Then he slung off of Blaze and dropped to the ground.

Just ahead of them, there was a small wooden shelter, now buried deeply in the snow. Gilan pushed his way through the white covering the ground and moved for the overhang of the building which luckily covered the door to the hut and prevent snow from making it impossible to get into. With one heave, Gilan managed to wrench the door open.
