Today was the big day. Paul and I were getting married today. We decided to have a private ceremony in our backyard. I had been working for months to fix up our gardens and plant flowers. Our backyard was now filled with colorful flowers and beautiful trees. Paul and I set up chairs for those who were coming. Of course, the rest of the boys would be there with their girls, even Linda. Her and John were now in a relationship, but they hadn't gone public yet. Linda had been staying with John for a while, so I asked her if her daughter, Heather, could be our flower girl and Heather was very excited. Some of Paul's family was coming and Paul's father was the one who would be marrying us. The day was already busy and it wasn't even lunch time and the wedding was to start at four in the afternoon. The caterer was due in an hour and Maureen and Pattie would be here soon to help me prepare for the big day. Paul and I had woken up about an hour ago and we were both giddy with excitement.
"I'm so excited, love."
"I know, Paul. Me too." Paul pulled me into his arms and kissed me.
"Eden McCartney just has an angelic ring to it, doesn't it?"
"Whatever you say, Paul." I pecked his nose just as the doorbell rang. "That must be Maureen and Pattie." Mo and Pattie were helping me to get ready for the big day. Even though it wasn't a big ceremony, Paul made sure that I was to get the dress of my dreams and be dressed to the nines.
"I guess it's time for us to part until four." Paul said, sadly.
"It will be alright, Paul. Just think, the next time you see me, we will be getting married."
"I know, my love." Paul pulled me into a hug and kissed me once more. "See you later."
"I love you."
"I love you, too. Now get the door before they run away!"
Paul went into the kitchen to wait for the caterer and I opened the door to reveal Mo and Pattie with cases of makeup and hair products.
"Who's ready to get ready?" Pattie squealed and pulled me into a hug.
"I guess I am!" I responded, a hint of nervousness in my voice.
"Don't be nervous, Eden! Everything will be okay!" Mo told me.
We went upstairs into one of the spare rooms where I had been storing my dress for the past month. No one had seen it, not even Mo and Pattie.
"Are you girls ready to see my dress?"
"Yes!!" They both jumped at the opportunity.
I opened the closet and the bag that my dress was in to reveal the gown. It was long and flowing. There was lace all over it and it had a low, v-neck cut neckline with sleeves that went to my elbows.
Mo and Pattie stood with their jaws to the floor.
"What do you think?" I asked them.
"It's...amazing and so beautiful." Mo told me.
"It's absolutely gorgeous, Eden! Now let's start getting you ready.
Mo and Pattie worked on my hair and makeup for hours making sure every last detail was perfect. It took so long because we were talking most of the time. We talked about Paul and I's plans for a honeymoon and if I wanted children. I did want children, but I was scared to have them. I didn't give them a reason, but I was terrified that if I had children, one day Paul would be left with them if there was ever another malfunction. The girls were still in the dark about where I was from. Soon enough, it was time to put on my dress. I undressed out of my pajamas and Mo and Pattie helped me into my dress. The secured it in the back and I slipped on the white sandals I had gotten for the wedding. Mo arranged my long, brown hair that was in curls perfectly. Some in the front, some in the back.
"Are we finished now?" I asked them.
"Wait! One more thing!" Mo said.
She went into her bag and pulled out a beautiful flower crown. It was composed of daisies, my favorite flower. She placed it delicately in my hair and made sure everything was perfect.
"You look stunning!" Pattie told me.
"Thanks Pattie. And you too Mo. I wouldn't look this good if it wasn't for you two."
Pattie and Mo smiled and there was a knock at the door.
"You ladies almost done? Paul's about to jump into space with excitement, so I suggest we get this show on the road." It was George.
"Yes, Georgie. We're done! We will come down now."
I took a deep breath as George opened the door.
George and I looped elbows.
"Are you ready, Mrs. McCartney?"
"Soon, George. Soon."
We began descending the stairs. This was it. It was finally happening and the love of my life is waiting outside. We waited in the living room for Mo and Pattie to get outside before making our way towards the back door.
"This is it, George." I took a deep breath and stepped out the door. Paul's face said it all.
