Chapter 36

Driver

"What?" Hindi makapaniwalang tanong ko sa kaniya.

My whole body was facing him as if I was ready to wrestle him to the ground, whilst he just stood in front of me, his palms inside his pockets, and his eyes boring into me. I could almost see an unreasonable glint of amusement lingering in his eyes.

He clicked his tongue. "I think you heard me right."

"I think not," I spat out, getting a little more irritated by the second.

He nodded, unfazed by my outburst.

"You definitely did." He turned around and started walking away. "Come this way, we're using my car."

"I did not agree to this," malamig kong sagot sa kaniya ngunit sinundan pa rin naman siya.

He looked back at me, the side of his lip stretching for a subtle smirk. "Then do you have any other choice, hmm?"

Sinamaan ko siya ng tingin habang nakasunod pa rin. "No, but—"

"No buts, I'm driving you, end of story," his tone was laced with finality. Umiwas na ulit siya ng tingin, ibinaling ang mga mata sa harapan at pinagpatuloy ang paglalakad tungo sa kotse niya.

I almost puked out of the audacity he was exuding. Parang ako pa talaga yung may utang na loob sa kaniya, e siya naman 'tong gumawa ng problema kung saan kailangan niyang bumawi. Hindi naman ako humingi ng pabor at siya yung kusang bumulontaryo.

Honestly, I didn't know what was happening, and why he was all of a sudden the one driving me to my destination. Nasaan na ba kasi si Grazen at bakit iba na yung kasama ko? Ganito yung solusyon na naisip ni Grazen kanina? Ayos lang naman sa aking hiramin ang kotse niya pero si Grazen dapat ang kasama ko. Driving with Sauyer was insufferable. Been there, done that.

I hissed as we neared his car more. "Kupal ka talaga. Parang ako pa yung dapat masusunod sa 'yo."

"Yes, simply because I'm doing you a favor," walang hiya niyang saad pabalik. Mas lalong kumulo ang dugo ko.

"One you didn't have to do if you weren't so ignorant in the first place!"

It was obvious that he was only saying those words to provoke me. I knew that he was aware of the fact that it was his fault, and was only trying to be thick-faced in order to tease me. Gano'n siya, e. Gusto niyang may nakukuha siyang reaksyon galing sa akin. Palibhasa, kulang sa pansin. Kung hindi siya aware doon, hindi siya nagkusang sundan ako rito at naglaang mag-drive sa 'kin imbes na si Grazen.

He turned around to face me as soon as we finally reached his black matte BMW. Nakayukom pa rin ang aking kamao nang magkaharap na kami. He sighed and massaged his forehead as if he had the right to be stressed.

"Look, what's done is done. Don't worry, we'll get there in a speed of light. It's like you were never even late in the first place," kunwaring pagod niyang pampalubag ng loob ko. Sumilip pa siya sa reaksyon ko. Parang timang.

Kita ko yung kaunting ngiti mo, stupid! Hindi mo ako maloloko.

I crossed my arms and shifted my weight on my right leg. "You have to tell me where you went first."
