~sister's husband~Bessie picked another necklace and placed it against her skin, "Cora darling, what do you think of this one?"
I had gone to see her just like I promised and she insisted we go on a mother, daughter outing.
I shake my head, "I don't like it."
Bessie is a very delicate woman. When I look at her I'm reminded immediately where Xavier got his good looks from. They bear such a striking resemblance you didn't need glasses to tell you that they were in fact a mother and son. They had the same captivating blue eyes that made you feel like you'll drown in them if you look long enough, a well defined jawline, white and flawless skin that puts that of any models to shame, the same smooth silky brown hair though Bessie's now has streaks of white in them.
"It looks stuffy.""I thought as much, Abigail my friend told me she bought it and I thought I would too but it doesn't seem to be my cup of tea. Why don't you pick out something for me then." She smiles showing off her pearly whites.
"You might not like-"
"Nonsense!" She chuckles, "go on."
I look at the large collection of jewelry that is placed in front of us and one of them catches my eyes, it has a gold chain and turquoise stones that'll so beautifully compliment her eyes. I picked it up, "how about this?"
"Wow! You've got a nice eye, those stones are known as the Bisebee Turquoise, they're very rare. As a matter of fact just two of this set are available in our store and that is one of them," the jewelry man says, smiling brightly.
"It does look exquisite, I'll get the two of them."
"Wonderful!!" He collects the necklace from Bessie and leaves.
"You have great taste."
"Ah- umm-"
"Just say thank you."
"Thank you," I look at her and we start laughing.
The jewelry man comes back with the boxed jewelry and hands them over to Bessie, "the full set," she nods. Pulls out her cheque book from her purse and writes a cheque for him.
"This one's for you." She smiles at me with her arm stretched forward waiting for me to collect the jewelry bag.
I look at her and shake my head, disbelief in my eyes. I could never take something like this. When I kept hesitating to collect the bag she smiled and said, "it's a small gift dear, remember I told you the last time you refused to collect my gift that I felt very hurt?"I nod, fine! This isn't for me anyways it's for Cora. I smiled back at her and collected the neatly packaged jewelry. "There you go! Now come with me I know what store I want to go to next," she took me by the hand smiling at me mischievously and we walked out of the jewelry store, it felt good. . . I felt good.
