"Dhara, beta jaldi se taiyar ho jao vo log aate hi honge."

"Aayi maa"

The Singh Pariwar was coming today with a marriage proposal. The house was thoroughly cleaned and new dishes were made.

Everything looked just perfect.

Dhara was sitting in her room nervously tapping her feet on the ground.

"Agar mai unhe pasand nahi aayi toh"

"Vo bahut gusse vale hue toh"

"Kya vo mujhse pyaar karenge ya baki aadmiyon ki tarah sirf datenge"

Her mind was a mess of thoughts she couldn't think straight. She was anxiously waiting for him to arrive.

She only knew a few things about Aakash. He was the elder son of Rajeshwar Singh, a prominent landlord of the village. Dhara had always seen girls crushing over him.

"Dhara neeche aa jaa beta"

Mustering up some courage she went downstairs. Two older men and a lady in her mid forties was sitting in the verandah.

"Aao beti baitho" Usha, the mother of Aakash lovingly called Dhara.

"Aapki laadli toh bhut pyari hai Damini ji"

"Jii sethani ji. Sab kuch kaam aata hai isko. Gaana vgerh bhi gaa leti hai"

"Accha hai. Sab nashta bhut accha bana hai."

Dhara tried to steal some glances of the man sitting in front of her. He was tall, long jet black her that reached till his shoulders, bulky arms and devilishly beautiful features.

His face was devoid of any emotions.
Their eyes met and Dhara quickly looked down to avoid embarrassment.

"Diwakar bhaisaheb humein ladki pasand hai. Agle hafte ka moohrat hai aap taiyari shuru kijiye."

"Jii jaisa aap kahe seth ji."

Dhara bowed down and touched the feet of the elders. She went towards Aakash to touch his feet but before she could touch them he removed them.

She felt bad but shrugged off the negative thoughts. She had already developed a crush on him and didn't want anything to go wrong.

6 days later

All the pre-wedding functions were done. Aakash was already sitting on the mandap wearing his sherwani.

The priest called Dhara, she came out with her cousins and friends. They helped her in sitting by carefully holding her lehenga.

Aakash filled her hairline and tied the mangalsutra on her neck. His fingers did not touch her even for once.

Soon the rituals were done. Dhara cried alot on her vidai. The Singhs got settled in their cars and left for their home.

Dhara was feeling anxious and sad. She looked at him, he was leaning against the window with his eyes closed.

Soon they reached the haveli. Her mother in law welcomed them. She seemed like a nice woman. They had many relatives.

"Bhabhi mai Shruti, aapki choti nanad.
Hum na kal khoob batein krenge. Abhi toh aapko bhaiya ke kamre Mai le chalte hai."
She teased Dhara who smiled timidly in response.
